NEW LEGISLATION LEGALIZING ART THEFT !!!

=cybaBABE:iconcybaBABE: reports, April 12, 2008
This Includes EUROPE!

This is UTTERLY SHOCKING. I read this article all the way through, and when I began, I thought to myself, "This can't ACTUALLY happen..." But it's happening, it's getting closer, and yes, if the US breaks this INTERNATIONAL POLICY, the rest of the world WILL FOLLOW. There's BIG MONEY to be made in legalizing art theft, and legislation is actually up in Europe as well that is identical to what's happening here in the US. DON'T LET THIS STAND, PEOPLE. If anyone ever takes anything away from my blogs, I want it to be this sense of outrage and upheaval. Don't think this can't happen, it's VERY possible that it will, and then it will become practically impossible for artists of any kind to make a living at what we do, and we can't even keep our works, OURS.

PLEASE, everybody who reads this and who doesn't want their works to be used by corporations or anybody who can get the drop on us, POST THIS IN YOUR OWN BLOGS. Deviantart is a HUGE community. We all need to rise up as one and show the world that we take our free copywriting rights SERIOUSLY. Otherwise we stand to lose EVERYTHING.

Read this article, it explains the details of the Orphan Works bill and how it will not just damage the artists of the world, but CRIPPLE us.

Please, I want to see blogs going up that are FEATURING this article, this is an INCREDIBLY serious matter, and if we lose the rights to our own art, we lose EVERYTHING.

Agreed. It's a truly stupid law and I hope no country starts enforcing this as law. I will link this in my journal :D

Thank you for the warning message, my love....;)

This kind of shits that's makes me sick of all politics on this earth, because everything is for the fucking money, governments are changing the copyright laws to protect the infringer instead of the creator, I suspect that they have secured a large part of this treasure if they are so interested in adopting this kind of madness...:X

I will link this in my journal, too...

is there no petition to sign against this capitalistic law?... could we start one?... DA is a huge community ... And I am sure that every artist here wants to protect his/her artworks...

it sucks, but i think there are plenty of news articles on this, try your journal FAQ #687: What is news and what is not news?

I am sure there are some heavy hitters trying to waylay any such bill. I actually work for a copyright/repermissioning firm. We have a wing of high-powered layers who spend their lives analyzing, lobbying, acting on this sort of thing.

Granted, part of the reason we defend rightsholders is because we make some money supporting them, but still, it has to do with our (and many others';) livelihood[s].

That being said... the CURRENT copyright laws are not very protective of artwork in the first place from what I understand.

I have an artist friend (on dA) who asked me to ask our lawyers questions about protecting her work, and the laws are apparently lax enough that most artwork will fall under fair use to some degree and it is very difficult to protect artwork.

**** I AM NOT A LAWYER **** I am a programmer who writes software to support rights management. So this is all unofficial. :)

I just wanted you to be aware that there ARE people on your side and work for all artists (writing, painting, photography, etc.)

All this being said, for more information you can and probably should contact any number of law firms that support copyright protection. They would be able to tell you a lot more and make it all very clear.

That article made me sick. If that bill gets passed, best believe I'm down with a revolution.
