I highly suggest that people who have read the really bad article on the "Orphaned Works" bills --
[link] -- read a response Meredith L. Patterson on the topic --
[link] . It's well researched, and shoots a number of holes in the panicked and badly-researched article that Mark Simon wrote. Among them: There is no bill currently in the works to make any of this a reality; You don't have to pay anyone anything to copyright your creations; and you DO have recourse if someone uses your work without checking with you.
Please read the articles. And stop reposting the first one and flipping out.

Dr Teef says you're a chump, because you're not taking on my art challenge. Are you gonna let him talk sh$% about you like that
Still, my blessing stands. Thanks for being a voice of reason amid panic and chaos.

There's also a .pdf out there on the bill in question, if anyone wants to hunt for it, it isn't hard to find.

Both S 2913 and H 5889 are currently active 06/06/08 - and yes, if one is defeated the 2nd bill will follow on its heels.
They are being fast tracked and right on target in May 08 according to CCC (from March 13, 2008 , COPYRIGHT CLEARANCE CENTER and so far, they're right on target...almost like they had an "in" huh?)
[link]).
They were introduced in April 08.
Is Meredith a professional artist? I am curious as to how she is qualified to address this issue? Attorney or Legal specialist with IP issues maybe?
