reports, April 13, 2008Okay, time for another edition of Mini-DDs! The little set of features that strives to show you some of the best in DD-worthy artwork!
And if you've read the summary outside, then you'll know we have a Mini-DDs first prepared for you this week! It may not seem like much to some, but trust me: When a Deviation ends up being so good that it becomes the first ever of its kind to earn accolades here, that definitely has to get some attention, right?
But enough talk about that, just skip to the first feature if you want to check it out. In the meantime, let's talk about something else...
So last week I heavily promoted DA's The World Ends With You contest, largely because of how it encouraged creativity. And unsurprisingly, there's a WEWY contest entry featured this week as well...But I just want to say a little something about the entries so far.
They're all definitely sweet, of course (though the characters submitted could use a bit of background), but $Moonbeam13 just updated the contest's guidelines (& extended the deadline), & with it I'd just like to say that I wouldn't mind seeing a little more "Noise" in this contest...If you know what I mean.
But of course, that's just me. Moving on to one last thing, the 2-year anniversary of the Mini-DDs is coming up (May 6th)! I'm starting to plan out some ways to celebrate, but just for the heck of it, I may as well ask: Anything you'd like to see me do for the occasion? I'm open for ideas...
Ah, but enough talk for now...Really. Let's get on with it already!

Alright now, on with the show! Here's this week's Mini-DDs...
Well, .gud luk wud. by ~PrestoMatic marks the first ever piece of Artisan Crafts to be featured here...& how could I have possibly resisted it? Very well-made with an extremely clever & inspired concept, cute to boot & expertly designed right down to the packaging, this is one sweet stress reliever that I definitely wouldn't mind having around! Bravo!
Seriously, how the Hell is it that *queen-dedede hasn't gotten a single DD yet? Her gallery is filled to the brim with several sweet drawings such as Gabriel Sound Your Trumpet, showcasing a cool style, unique character design, excellent coloring, & cool little touches right down to that wicked pose & the snippet of story that makes you want more. Plus, anything Psychonauts has to equal win. It's the law.
Does it seem wrong that "sleek & sexy" are two words I immediately thought of the first time I saw Evil Automat Butler by =scuzzo? Whatever the case, here are a few more words that describe it well: Stylish, clever, well-drawn, well-detailed, perfectly minimally colored, deliciously sinister, & of course, purely awesome. Just so damn Terminatorish & cool...
WEWY - Lucelle and her friends by ~O-mie...Frankly, you had me at "flaming yoyo-skulls". A definite contender in the WEWY contest, this is a lovely little piece of innovative character design, nicely drawn & stylish with several cool little touches in every area from the clothing to the colors to the expressions...All done perfectly. Even if this doesn't take home the grand prize, it easily deserves all the praise it can get!
A brilliant & cheerful burst of red & black goodness, blast from triangle by ~goenz is a lovable & manic-filled piece of work with charm dripping from every corner. Between the funky little critter designs, the amazing & unique style, & the way all the action is perfectly spread out, there should be nothing stopping you from adding this baby to your faves.
Now who else but *Hitlersbrain would've thought of crossing Saturday morning cartoons & pudding monsters? Genius, I say, genius! The Pudding Is You is an instant classic thanks to HB's unique signature style, cool little characters, excellent use of striking colors, & pure love for cartoons in general. Seriously, "Pudding Sultan"...How can you possibly resist an idea like that?
~MAiS2, despite what you may think of the name you picked out for the title character in BUTCH-R_wants_u, you will have to admit that everything else you've done here is amazing. That excellent use of perspective, that perfectly crazed expression, that perfect color scheme, those sweet little details...They all make for one nice & twisted little drawing that is not to be missed out on.
Man, you know, we sadly do not have enough kangaroo anthros lurking around DA...So thankfully along comes *sonitweek with Prete a Puncher to help fill that void. Unique character, cool style, great colors, & perfectly detailed right down to the anatomy...Simply lovable all around. Bravo, & here's hoping we see more of this cute little lady in the future...
~elspike-o always does have a knack for drawing incredibly eye-popping & detail-packed pieces of work, & DOM is no exception. Between the cool robot design, the unique mix of colors, & the way it just perfectly feels like its straight out of some Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world, this is one amazing & intense drawing that deserves all the attention it can get.
