The english springer spaniel

~novablue:iconnovablue: reports, April 20, 2008
The english springer spaniel is a very popular breed of dog around the world - and not without reason!
Having originally been bred to flush and retrieve game for its master, today the breed has found its place as an active allround companion dog. While some springers are still bred for the hunt, others are instead seen in the show ring, on the obedience field, at the agility trials, on the sofa... the list goes on.
The breed can look very different depending on what line of dogs you are looking at. There is the agile and rather smooth-coated field springer, the heavily coated and elegant american show springer, the moderate british springer... and plenty of other variations. All of them share the true springer spirit, however!
With this news article, I hope to bring some attention to this loveable breed - they deserve it!

The english springer spaniel is one of the largest spaniel breeds. Its conformation is similar to the more well-known english cocker spaniel, but the springer is always black or dark brown with white, and without or without so called tan points. The breed is easily recognized by its highly energetic nature and happy-going ways. They tend to have a goofy expression plastered on their face - not rarely combined with what looks like a big grin! Chances are that no matter how long you look, you're never going to come across a more expressive face! Look closely on the photos below (full view is a must!) and I'm sure you'll see what I mean!

The English Springer Spaniel Rocks! I have two. This breed definatly deserves the attention. I just Love the breed!

Sandshrew ftw!
:iconjesterseven:
My family had a springer when I was younger, great dog! I find it disappointing that in North America many of the lines have virually no ticking. I much prefer the British look. I have a Cavalier now, since I needed something smaller.

Great article :D! English Springers are such a great breed . I do not own one but know many, both feild and show bred. The difference in temperament and activity level between the two is amazing but both are great family pets ^__^.

Give Dunder a hug for me :)!

Thanks for the feature :)

 Fantastic job! My family had one named Crystal when I was little. She was an American show type, black and white, full saddle, but never shown. Absolutely beautiful, though. I'll have to find some pictures and post them. She was from Salilyn lines. Great dog. I miss her. She had a stroke and we had to put her down when I was about eight. I remember it being around Easter time.. (and, I think I'll stop there before I go on ranting anymore.)

Anyway, english springers rock. :yum:
