"It is never too late to be what you might have been."
- George Eliot
I have a challenge for each and every one of you.
There will be no prizes, no winners, and no losers. Not even a runner-up. This challenge is for yourself, your art, and no one else.
This is not a contest. It is a challenge. Challenge yourself.
The concept is really quite simple. Think of something that inspires you; something that pushes you beyond your limits, and allows you to do what you never thought possible. There has to be something (or somebody) out there that helps you to grow as an artist and a person, and enables you to do whatever you think you can.
It doesn't matter what this is, whether it be living, inanimate, or make-believe, as long as it inspires you.
Think long and hard before you start the challenge; search yourself for the one thing in this world that empowers you to create. And when you finally find it, bring it out! Create a visual representation of your inspiration and show it to the world!
I want you all to recreate your inspiration in a form of art. But the easy part stops here -- this
is a challenge, after all.
You cannot display it in your usual medium. Reach outside of your limitations and pour your heart and soul into a new kind of art -- show us all how well your inspiration gives you the ability to create something beautiful and unique!
- If you draw, put down your pencils and tablets! Try some prose or poetry, a physical craft, or lyrics!
- If you write, pick up those drawing utensils, or try some animation!
- If you love digital art, why not try creating off the computer?
The suggestions here are just that: suggestions. If you write, you aren't limited to drawing or animation. Anything outside your norm is fine!Search DeviantART (or the internet, for that matter) for a new and unique style of art that you never even dreamed of trying before!
Try something new and let your new-found talent grow!Remember to be creative! Put some excitement and emotion into your piece; make it shine!
It doesn't matter if others don't like your final product. This challenge isn't about popularity, but instead, self-growth.
It doesn't matter if it takes you a year to do this. There is no due date or deadline; set your own pace, and create with freedom.
It doesn't even matter if you never submit your art; as long as you did it, or tried, you can have the satisfaction that you've tried something new.
If you're a bit stuck, here's a list of opportunities just waiting for you to delve into...
- traditional animation;
- drawing or painting;
- typography;
- sculpting;
- collages;
- digital art;
- pixel art;
- text art;
- photography;
- poetry or prose or lyrics;
- food, clothing, woodworking, jewelry making;
- movies or games;
- cartoons (anime, manga, etc.), comics;
- anthro art;
- and much, much more!
TRY IT! You just might regret it if you don't!
Again, there is no due date for this, nor is there to be prizes or winners. If you try a new art form, you've won the challenge. If you've tried to search for inspiration, you've completed the challenge. If you successfully did both of these acts, you've passed the challenge with flying colours!
The only way to lose is to never try.Those of you who do complete the challenge, and submit the visual representation of their inspiration, may send me a link (whether it be by note, or by commenting below) to their final product. By doing so, I will feature your deviation in my journal, along with the other submissions.
I wish you all good luck!
