reports, April 22, 2008Happy Earth Day! Yes, today is Earth Day--a national holiday. Not very many people know that today, April 22nd is a national holiday devoted to our mother earth, so help me spread awareness! As a tribute, here are a few tips to living well and helping out mother earth:
Look for minimal packaging. Afterall you're after the product, not the packaging. Specifically petroleum packing is the bad stuff you want to try to stay away from.
If you use disposible plates, use brands that feature 100% recycled plastic. They are re-usable, dishwasher safe, and easy to wash.
Buy recycled aluminum foil because making it uses 1/20th the amount of energy it takes to make new aluminum foil.
Buy organic products. Organic products do not use pesticides and other things that can be harmful to the environment. Consuming organic food can be more healthier to you and is for sure healthier for mother nature.
Paper or plastic? NEITHER! Invest in a or several reusable bags to take your groceries home in. Plastic bags take up to 1,000 years to degrade in landfills and there are more than 380 million thrown away in the U.S. per year! In addition to this, paper bags will eventually rot, however, at the price of 14 million trees a year is needed to construct the "paper" in "paper? or plastic?"
Let's do what we can to help the environment. Earth is the only planet we can live on, we need to step up and take care of our only home in the galaxy. Our only home in the galaxy--let us not take it for granted.
