Glamour Week Interview with Oldboy1985 (MC)

^Ghouldaddy:iconGhouldaddy: reports, April 25
In association with Project Educate I'd like to welcome you to Glamour Week here on deviantART. All week I'll be conducting a series of interviews with a few of the best Glamour photographers on deviantART. This past week we've been catching up with threelibras, DalaiHarma and both Winter and Wolf from Girltripped. Today in the final Glamour Week interview we are joined by *Oldboy1985

1)First off introduce yourself? Who are you, where are you from? What are you wearing :P

My name is Insuh Yoon, I was born in Seoul South Korea but I'm currently living in Queens New York. I'm currently a photo major at FIT in New York City ..(ed. I guess he's naked :O )

2)What first drew you to photography?

I kind of fell into it. I had no aspirations of becoming a photographer when I was younger. I picked up a cheap point and shoot digital camera when I was 18 and it grew from there. The thing was flimsy piece of crap but I loved it to death. It was small and fit into my pocket so I took pictures of EVERYTHING I found interesting.

3)How would you describe your personal style? And when did you know you had one?

My style varies slightly from shoot to shoot so it's really hard to say. I'd say it's a mixture of glamour, pinup and fashion

4)In your view, what makes a great glamorous photo?

For me, a good glamourous photo is simply one that is pleasing to look at

5)What do you look for in a model for your work?

Someone who has a unique look or vibe about them. I like working with people who have a connection with the camera...someone that looks at you and not through you. Someone who is comfortable in their own skin and has a good grasp of who they are

6)Describe a typical shoot for you..from concept on down

First I find the model, then I find an appropriate location and together we discuss wardrobe, hair, and makeup. we coordinate our schedules and then we shoot. I like to keep it simple.

7)Is there anyone that you wish to work with?

Dita von Teese, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Moss, Sabina Kelly, and Tadanobu Asano just to name a few

8)I know for myself, music and my friends/lifestyle, movies are a big influence on my work, what influences you day to day? And does it creep into your work...

I'd say that films in general are a great inspiration to me, I really enjoy films with a strong sense of visual direction. Lately I've been really inspired by Wong Kar Wai films. His way of telling a story is so obtuse yet completely engrossing and moving. The visual style of his films are incredibly lush and romantic. Watching a great film usually inspires me to create images that evoke a certain mood

9)How did find deviantART, and why stay?

I joined DA when I started taking photos a few years ago and I've kept it because it's interesting to see my work evolve over time. It's also a great place to come for inspiration

10) Any particular fav people on deviantART?

*hakanphotography, `zemotion, ~spindl, =girltripped
~Aaron-Hawks, ~miss-mosh, =Pelicanh, ~stuntkid
~heather-joy, `larafairie

11) What are your fav pieces of art on dA?

water study 3 by Lithium Picnic

the lighting is unbelievable. Apnea and Porcelain look perfect. Lithium Picnic never ceases to amaze me.

Natalie1928 by Michael Helms

I really love the vintage look and feel of this image. The styling is spot on, and the model is beyond gorgeous

heaven by ~TOYIB

I like how all the elements in this photo work together. from the heart shaped glasses to the fluorescent lights and even the piglet balloon that looms
overhead.

begging on his knees by ~denozor

these puppets look fucking amazing, I want them :)

fruit loop by ~miss-mosh and =girltripped

Mosh has never looked better. Winter and Wolf are two artists that really inspire me. The lighting and post processing are top notch. Mosh looks amazing
as usual. This is a great example of a perfect collaboration between artists and a model.

12) What's your favourite image of your own?

my favorite photo of mine has to be this shot of Amber Marie

It was one of the first times where I was able to capture something that surpassed what I had originally imagined.

13) Where would you like to see deviantART head in terms of it's Photography galleries?

I think the photography galleries on deviantart are already strong and I hope it continues to be as great as it is. I'm constantly amazed by what
other artists are producing and it keeps me humble to see such great art being produced on a daily basis by other deviants.

14) What are you up to? Any projects planned?

my goal as a photographer is to never stop improving, I hope to produce more meaningful work. this summer I'd like to do a series of documentary style photos that tell a story,
something that feels cinematic in nature.

Of course what would an interview be without some eye candy to finsih things off with:

OldBoy has quickly become one of my favorites here. The pinup work is fantastic and the use of props to set it apart from many of the others. Great interview. You should check out Kay O'hara as a model to shoot!
