watercolorists is deviantArt's first (as far as I know) and largest watercolor club. Their goal is to share watercolor techniques and love with watercolorists of any skill level. Their founder lost the time to maintain the club and *
leftyfro, stepped up to run the club in September 2006, got everything going again and implemented club features. *
abasss, a member since the very beginning, joined the club as an admin in September 2007 and is the club ambassador, manages notes, and welcomes new members. *
leftyfro uploads art into the gallery and maintains the journals.
They feature their member's work in our gallery, but our main focus are resources.
They maintain information on deviantArt watercolor resources -->
[link] and internet watercolor resources -->
[link] They also have a forum to answer any questions or discussions initiated by the artist. Their biggest feature is our AquaTips journals -->
[link] Members can write a tip or technique and they will post it in their journals. They also post questions to their members to get a rounded view of what works for various artists.
Watercolour is a transparent water based medium usually applied with the brush to a paper or a similar absorbent support. It is characterised by the transparency. It is made of water soluble paint, made of finely ground pigment particles with a binder such as Gum Arabic. It is usually distributed in the tubes or cakes. The paint is also non permanent, and frequently paintings are characterised by by controlled bleeding of paint and transparent layering. Water is used as a vehicle to spread and dilute the colours, and it consequently evaporates. Watercolour classification is cultural, it is considered as a painting medium, however in some countries watercolour in contemporary sense can be considered a drawing medium based on a method of application.
