These articles are created in the spirit of showing the Japan loving crowd on DeviantArt what Japan is really like through photography rather than the stylised super popular Japanese pop-culture. This article however would seem to re-enforce many of the stereotypical views of Japan due to the 'Kawaii' theme of this article. However, I wanted to show those who find it hard to understand why words like 'Kawaii' and other popular words from the Japanese language are used in comments on DA and becoming more commonly used in everyday speech. The reason is physiological in nature and can hopefully be explained by a blog I found on the subject:

Kawaii is a Japanese term which means "cute". Cuteness seems to be a highly valued aesthetic quality in Japanese society and particularly Japanese pop culture, and overpowering cuteness seems to carry less of the stigma of infantilization as it does in many other cultures. Kawaii is pronounced /ka.wa.ii/ (not to be confused with "kowai", /ko.wa.i/ the Japanese term for "scary"). "Kawaii" can be used to describe animals and people, including fully grown adults; while attractive women are usually described as "kawaii," young men are more likely to be described as kakkō-ii, meaning "good looking" or "cool". "Kawaii" is also used to describe some men who are considered to have "cute" personalities.
As a cultural phenomenon, cuteness is increasingly accepted in Japan as a part of Japanese culture and national identity. Tomoyuki Sugiyama, author of "Cool Japan" believes that "cuteness" is rooted in Japan's harmony-loving culture, and Nobuyoshi Kurita, a sociology professor at Musashi University in Tokyo, has stated that "cute" is a "magic term" that encompasses everything that's acceptable and desirable in Japan.
On the other hand, the minority of Japanese sceptical of cuteness consider it a sign of an infantile mentality. In particular, Hiroto Murasawa, professor of beauty and culture at Osaka Shoin Womens University asserts that cuteness is "a mentality that breeds non-assertion ... Individuals who choose to stand out get beaten down."

Anywho, I'm betting most of those who clicked on this article were expecting lots of 'Kawaii" photos, and i aim not to disappoint. These photos were selected as a representation of common sights around Japan and why japan has such a reputation for such things.

It's stupid to give up, isn't it?
In internet, such things do not irritate me, but when I met once a girl (anime fan), and she started to say "kawaiiiiiiii! This kawaiiii! That's kawaiii! Baaaaka, don't tell me that! Minna, let's go to this shop!" and so on - then I wanted to break her neck just to stop her. ^^' That was traumatic...

I never say things like that. Even though I do not mind people when they talk like that I would never say such things myself.
