The film Gallery

Purpose

Much to our surprise, there are people that don't even know we have a film gallery on deviantART! The film gallery is an amazing addition to our family of artists. It's now opened the doors to a whole new set of artists! Film makers never before had a place to post work on DA and Animators had to post in 2 somewhat obscure and under represented galleries. The Film gallery continues to grow and expand. we are making changes to all aspects of DA to accommodate this. we have added many categories, restructured the film gallery, and working on integrating to other animation categories and getting more people posting in the film gallery!

Invitation system

The film & animation gallery is Invitation only. This process has allowed us to control what makes it into the gallery. The misconception is, that we don't let anyone in who isn't perfect in every way, which is not true. the Invitation process allows us to monitor copyright violations in submissions, monitor what type of film is being made to create events and modify the gallery structure to accommodate trends and popular types of work. We also monitor the music thats being submitted and make sure that people have the right to the sounds and music they use.

Film headquarters

^deviantartfilm is our Film Headquarters! If you are interested in film - not simply to be a submitting member, but also as a viewer - this is a good account to devwatch. We keep an archive of our AR updates, posted news articles, News and updates, and a Resource list of studios and job boards sorted by location.
In all these cases, you can also note us and send us links and relevant info we can share in these journals. We think that this makes us a unique gallery that is geared toward being in tuned with the community.

The music issue

The music rights issue is a constant and turbulent issue. Our submission do not allow the use of any music you do not have permission to use in your submissions. As much as we try to educate, people don't understand how important it is to make sure your sounds are available to use. You would not like someone using your artwork without permission. think the same with music. When you are Displaying your work, even if you don't make money off of it, you are screening it to the public. This is not acceptable use for music if you don't have the rights to use it. Just because its famous music, doesn't mean you are exempt from the law. We at deviantART, and the Film community, have been frequently updating the film FAQ's with links to resources for you.

Film & Flash

Its important to note that the flash gallery is still, and always will be independent from the Film Gallery. your flash Gallery director is ^Age2003 Hes a sweet chap who take excellent care of the flash gallery. All flash gallery DD suggestions should go to him. The film gallery player does not support the interactivity of a flash file. unless a flash file is converted to an MOV, then it cant be uploaded to film. The flash galley should remain separate anyways, is a big and fun community. That doesn't mean we cant get together sometimes and have collaborations though.
