Let's talk with... *SM-Photography{Episode I}
By ~ThEnemY
Can you tell us something about youself?
Welps. Besides the fact that I do photography, I also have really random talents. I play the piano, I harmonize with myself, I make up all kinds of songs, I like music, I can be loud, or super quiet, and I have no idea how to answer "tell me about yourself" questions!
How long have you been doing photography?
I got my first camera in 2004 and started playing with it. But I didn't realize I really liked photography until about my Sophomore year in high school. I got my Kodak in 2005 I believe, and went from there. Finally in December of last year I bought my digital SLR, and it has taught me a lot! I'd have to say that I learn more doing it than I'd ever learn reading about it. (I've never had classes, nor have I finished a book).
Now some questions about your gallery: why do you take principally portraits?
Of all things to take pictures of, I find pleasure in portraits. I don't know, but there is a difference when you add a person into the photo. I like to capture meaning and emotion.. It's sort of hard to explain. In fact, there might not even be a way. It's just something I do!
There a lot of self portraits...is there a meaning?
I guess maybe because there is no one to take pictures of sometimes, so I'm all desperate for new pictures, so I go out with random outfits to think of new ideas! I don't even think about it. I just think, "Hey! Nothing else to do today" and I go out and do it.Especially because it's just me doing it, there is no worry about what other people think and stuff. I guess self-portraits are just really fun to do on days I'm home alone. Or to think of new ideas!
Every your pic is something more than "just a portrait". I mean for example "Everything Inside." or "Love Can Be Your Lullaby.". Can you tell us something about your method?
These are hard questions! Well, not really hard, but there isn't really a way to explain it, like I've said. I just think of ideas in my head, and then try to get them out, or I picture something with pretty much EVERYTHING. In "Everything Inside" I was just outside trying some ideas, including the sky and such.. And then later I pick and edit them, and upload. Sometimes I don't go all out, but yet it might look like I do? It's just...me.
Is eyesight important in your pics?
Yes. My photos are what I see in my eyes.
You collaborate with a lot of models. Are they your friends?
It seems as though I am able to find people to take pictures of, but really I only have one model. I'd have two, but one moved away. Any others might be a friend (or my sister) that I see rarely or just took pictures to have fun.
I still try to find people who'd model though.
What inspires you?
Not only do other people's work and how amazing they inspire me, but also God's creations inspire me greatly. He does make such beautiful things.
What camera do you use?
I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D).
Do you have other tools of trade?
Yes. I use Photoshop 7 (although I'd love to have CS3), my 50mm f/1.8 lens, and a tripod. Nothing much, but I try my best to work with that I have.
What makes art important to you?
I believe art is a visual way to express one's feelings, or to show such meaning, to share emotion, and let people see what I see...from my imagination.
What about your future?
I would really love to be a fashion photographer and work for a magazine. If not exactly that, then somewhere near that career and field.
Is there any advice you'd like to give to inspiring artists and photographers?
If you have the talent, use it. You either have it or you don't. No one can teach you how to take "good" pictures. It must be in your eyes.
Thank you for the interview, say "hello" to the readers!
