The Celestial Paintbrush has been cleaned and hung to dry, and all the entries are in for the Okami Fan Art Interpretive contest. We received many gorgeous and truly original interpretations of the theme, and it was a great pleasure to go through them all. Once again the deviantART Community has shown that it can rise to any challenge brought before it.
But, at the end of the day this is a competition, and you are all most definitely some of the most competitive people around. And in the end, three stood out just that little bit more and are taking home the prizes.
So without further delay, we present to you, the winning entries!

All artists are trying to get attention but there is a difference between art and trying to get attention.

No one can get better without critique, appreciate how others take the time spotting the mistakes of your drawings instead of getting mad at them for ruining your "perfect world"....
It's harder than just writing "nice" or adding a smilie I tell ya.
Congrats to the winners, nice work, but I call a foul.
"No copyrighted images can be used in any way except for the creative resources linked below."
"The design must be 100% your work"
"Entries are to be inspired by the game, Okami, but not derivative of it or other privately owned property"
Following these rules, fanart or not, following these rules, these 3 entries are void.
They are completely derived from Okami, they are not part of the creative resources, and are technically copyrighted images, i.e. a white wolf with very specific markings.
Again, congrats to the winners on fine pieces of art, but to the judges, please be more clear on the rules next time, as in maybe stating that most of the rules don't count.

But unfortunately, I do have to admit I agree with Tsuminaoshi. I took "Entries are to be inspired by the game, Okami, but not derivative of it or other privately owned property" to mean nothing directly from Okami-as in, no drawings of Ameterasu in her wolf form, or any other characters.
Yes, the winners have GORGEOUS works. Regardless, I had originally thought that the purpose of the contest was an inspiration challenge, not a fanart display. Meh, just my two cents.

The rest of you may hate your insomnia, but I'm not sure I want a cure for mine. That's when I get all my best ideas. I'm alone, ocassionally, no distractions. My mind is racing with creative ideas and come 3 AM I feel like a genius.~Theo, The Haunting
and I feel the same way: i had like a list of 5 potential pieces, of which none were mine, that i thought were shoe-in's....and none of the winners were them...I'm sensing some drama when the news spreads...as there were many confused by the rules stated.
