*ArynChris:iconArynChris: reports, November 16
A comprehensive guide to commissioning, based on my personal experiences and observations. This guide does not address hosting contests, nor does it specifically address the unique challenges of commissioning through specific websites, though some typical scenarios are mentioned in passing. Topics include choosing the artist, why it's important to make sure you can afford it, how to contact the artist, payment, what WIPs are and why you might want to see them, and legal rights of both parties. Legal rights are discussed at the beginner level and are NOT in depth here.

A better way to organize deviations?

*Orioto:iconOrioto: reports, May 7, 2008
So, i was talking about that in a journal and people seems to find the idea interesting. It's my first news anyway !

The actual way of organizing content is somewhat not perfect, cause it links two things that should be independant : genre and tech of an image.

Those two aspects shoudn't be linked for two reasons. Firstly, pratically, it makes some impossible matchs, as for me for exemple, who can't have a fanart photomanipulation category, as it just doesn't exist !

Secondly, ideologically, genre and tech should never be linked in any way. I'll take the animation exemple. People have the tendency to consider animation as a genre, and it reduce the scope of it. Animation is a technical aspect, but every genres can be represented by it. That's why the genre of an image shouldn't be associated by force to a technical style.

The thing i propose is really simple, and would greatly simplify the browsing ans submiting. Let's have two distinct and independant categorization in the submiting process. The genre, and the technical style. So a fanart can be anything, or a portrait, or a design... And the browsing would just be about chosing a genre, and, or (or not) a technical style.

That's an excellent idea. I know with your situation that you do photomanipulations (which you also digicolour a lot of) can't be in both photomanipulation and fanart categories at the same time. And there are probably many people with the same problem, so I think your idea should be considered by the administration.

I respect the opinions of others... do the same.
:iconzuldzin:
Yes! Lets have two categories to chose in the submiting process, this is great idea!

:iconihavenoorgans:
so how would this tree map out? would it be choose the genre then technical style? or would it be technical style then genre? what would the list of genre's be? what would be the subcategories? what I'm assuming is implied is that you choose something like Fanart - Digital - Photomanipulation or Digital - Photomanupulation - Fanart. would it be possible to have a list where all aspects are relatively accessible by all other aspects? or would it be similar to the tapering effect we have now, only with a different branching system?
this is a great idea
