Street Photography Interviews: ComeWatchMyArt!

^Obsidian-Fox:iconObsidian-Fox: reports, May 9
Pascal (=ComeWatchMyArt) is one street photographer who embraces the traditional tool of the masters, a nice shiny quiet leica, and uses it to great results!

Name and geographical location.

Pascal from Zurich, Switzerland.

How long have you been shooting (in total) and when did you start shooting Street?

You actually can see my whole 'career' as a photographer here on deviantART. I started taking photographs in January 2007 and really got into Street Photography in August '07.

What inspired you to shoot street?

I've been always somehow fascinated by photographs with a journalistic or street touch. One of the first deviants I've discovered with that kind of style was ~oq and I immediately fell in love with his photographs. Soon I've found `cweeks and ~zort and I thought, that their gallery was kinda cool. I was mainly a landscape photographer back then. So I decided I finally wanna be as uber-fucking-cool as Chris (`cweeks) and as super-sexy / wild as Bernhard (~zort) too! No, just kidding. I was amazed at all the tiny moments they captured on the street, in their everyday life. I wanted to do so too. That's it. Simple as that. Capturing our everyday life it is. And I'm not going anywhere without my camera nowadays.

What goes through your mind while you explore the streets?

Haha, what a question! I'm not sure, what do you think when you walk through the city? [to answer that I think of the past a lot] I guess lots of things. Well, before I started with street photography, I saw an interesting moment and was just watching the scene as it was happening. Now I'm also thinking about capturing it with my camera, which involves thoughts about where I have to stand and what settings I use on my camera. But it's also about observing people and guessing what could happen next – maybe something worth photographing.

At first did you feel comfortable shooting people?

Not at all. I was scared as chicken-shit. But I got more and more comfortable with it and have no problem with it anymore (mostly).

How did you overcome that fear (or) Do you have any advice for people looking to overcome that fear?

I've noticed that there is nothing to be scared of. Most of the people are anyway too shy to say something. And when they say something, so be it, they won't beat or kick the crap out of you (at least I hope so). I've only gotten once a complaint, and it didn't bother me at all actually.

Can you show us your favorite street photograph (from your gallery) and explain why it is your :+fav:

This one up until now. I like photographs, which capture an intimate moment of someone's life. Someone, who is sleeping – that's pretty intimate, right?

Can you show us your favorite street photograph (from ANY dA gallery) and explain why it is your :+fav:

Let me show two.

Moment. Composition. Thwaap. Nice photograph.

Another perfect example for the right moment.

On the street, what is your favorite subject?

Anything that can interact with people, so pretty much everything. Even a still life scene can be interesting though, so no restrictions here.

What is the best tip you can give to others?

Take a camera everywhere you go.

Favorite photographer and why?

I don't have one favourite photographer. I don't even know as many photographers as most other photographers I know. I like lots of old photographs by Magnum photographers. Oh and of course James Nachtwey's photographs aren't bad either ;)
