SPOTLIGHT ARTIST FEATURE HATEFUELED
This past week I was very fortunate to have accidentally stumbled upon this artist, Hatefueled
. I cannot say enough about the emotion and thought provoking feelings she brings about in the viewer with her images. She has a fantastic eye for detail and her shading is perfect. Please take a moment to visit her gallery when you have a moment!

1. When did you realize you wanted to be an artist? As a child and even now, the only way people can keep me quiet is by putting a pencil and paper in front of me. I used to strive to draw like my mother, capturing things like faces with the least marks made. Throughout school, art was the only class I felt I could accomplish anything in without so much studying and more enjoyment. Giving someone a drawing or being asked for one and seeing them enjoy the work made the effort worth it. Every time I finish something I'm happy with, my next goal is to do something just as good or better.2. Where do you get your inspiration? How does it make you decide on what kind of art you want to do?I am constantly inspired by the people around me, their personalities, their talents, their intensity... when I see something someone has created or watch someone creating something, I see the spark in them and it re-lights my own. I'm always learning and experimenting but without the people I've come in contact with in the past I would never be where I am today.3. Do you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?Bit of both. From school, I went into art college, traveling between Australia and England, trying to keep up with the levels of learning and equivalences, I did a year of art college in England which made year 12 equivalency here in Australia so I had to do a year on a fundamentals course before being accepted into the three year advanced diploma course I'll be completing at the en of this year. Between classes I've also been learning things from the artists and friends around me, experimenting, going to afternoon groups like watercolor painting classes back when I was in school, life drawing classes, mentoring with Paul D Robertson,
While all along, receiving the constructive criticism I need to help me improve from lecturers, friends in person and friends on DA and parents.
4. Is there any particular kind of art you would like to try that you have not experimented with, and why?
I think I've looked at enough types of art to know that drawing and painting is defiantly my thing. I enjoy them the most I think they're my strongest talents. I'll always have room for improvement, though. I'm currently fascinated black and white work. This helps me to work on my tones, compositions and thing without getting too distracted by getting the colors right as well. I'm also obsessing with portraiture at the moment.
5. If you could pick any one piece from your gallery to be you absolute, all-time favorite...which one would it be and why?
Well it's currently a tie between Never Quit Searching
and 'The white stripes' [link]
Never quite searching is my all time favorite painting so far because it's so simple yet has a lot put into it, like textures, concept and details. It displays so many of the things that I've learned from Stuart Elliot, one of my lecturers. He has taught me so much about composition, color and textures, he's an inspiring lecturer who reminds me that the course is so worth the time and money. (portrait of Stuart, [link] ). On the other hand, The white stripes is everything I strive for in my portraiture work at the moment. Using white on black, utilizing the lack of color in the composition, the detail of the hair, face and clothes and capturing a look in the eyes.
6. Do you have any advice you can give to new deviants?
Well, when you find an aspect in your work and even life that you feel you aren't quite getting the hang of, focus on it more than anything else until you either get to a point you can say you're proud of it, don't admit defeat until you can honestly say you are incapable of it.
Always absorb criticism, don't let it bring you down, use it for improvement, when someone reacts negatively to your work without explaining what you did wrong, ask them why they didn't like it if their opinion matters to you.
When titling your work, use the least amount of syllables you can. A title is very important, and it's like naming a child. Make it deepen the work, describe the work, draw attention to it... untitled, ' portrait 27'... is hardly as creative as the work.
Also, keywords, categorizing, republishing and filing are a few things deviant art provides that can help you get your work seen. If you don't use them, you won't get the constructive criticism or support from the DA community you deserve.
