Artisans and Functional Art - June 2009

^Kitten-of-Woe:iconKitten-of-Woe: reports, July 8
This is the fifth in this series that features art by members of the Artisan Crafts gallery that I feature daily in one of my journal modules. I add one each day and each is featured for 24-48 hours and then all are featured at the beginning of the next month as a group. These artisan works are found through my casual browsing and they could be very recently uploaded or they could be older works. They could have been made by very well-known artisans, by someone still unknown, or by someone very new to dA. They are random finds, so one gallery might be represented more than another and one artist might get featured more than once in the same month. My picks are totally random finds and that which struck me as something wonderful... I hope you think so, too, and that you enjoy this new series!

The Jewelry Connection - Meet the Artist

*Mona77401:iconMona77401: reports, May 15, 2008
At [link] THE JEWELRY CONNECTION, Mona Hair is “hostess to guest jewelry artists, talking jewelry design, sometimes doing tutorials, and generally exploring the world of jewelry design from an artisans point of view and experience”.
Mona says: “The interviews are not just about the designs. The interviews are about the designers, what their aspirations are, what drives their creative forces, what inspires their creativity…it’s much more than just about the jewels. It’s a philosophical adventure intended to educate the public about who designers are, what their work means, and what the value of that work really is. It’s also a tremendous opportunity to get to know other designers and share some very special time in a more dimensional way than just through text! To actually hear them speak, see their faces….makes it a very meaningful experience”! A wide variety of designers have been guests of the program including Amity Doolittle, a professor at Yale University.
The broadcast offers an entertainment element of music as well, to round out the show!
Broadcasts are every Sunday afternoon at 12pm PST, 2pm CST, or 3pm EST depending on your location. The home page of the broadcast site offers more information!
Mona conducts a polite, friendly, and welcoming scripted interview. She creates a supportive environment for jewelry artists to share with their peers and the public at large. A Direct Link to the Broadcast room is: [link]
and may be visited 24/7. The show goes live every Sunday afternoon. During down time, the broadcast room offers video presentations of previous designers, mp3 music files, and a real time chat area that is available for visitors who have nowlive.com user ids, to enjoy.
Well worth the time to investigate!

It entails live video feed, call in's, text chat, photos. I honestly would recommend this interactive venue to everyone. I had a lot of fun doing this!!
