Emoticons, those little round guys that make this site so cool, they show up all over the place. During this time period there was a rise in the amount and diversity of emoticons that were posted. I gathered a few of the popular ones that are used just about every day in comments all over the site. Hope to find more in the next editions.

I also found two awesome screen captures of the front page. For all those people who complain whenever the site gets a new face lift, check out what DA looked like in 2001. Ah, yes, very little to complain about these days when a stark comparison is made to what it used to look like.

And one thing that strikes me every time I dig into the galleries, DA has become a type of history book in its own rite. 9-11 hits home again when you find themed art relating to the terrorist attacks on New York City.

In a way, you can also see what was big in pop culture, as well as what styles were being shaped and molded across the galleries. DA saw some wicked styles emerge in the wallpaper galleries, much of which we still see today in various modified forms as artists continue to push the limits. Speed painting also started to get some serious recognition, and the photography sections started to pick up momentum as more people saw DA as a great place to post their pictures.

Talent developed, styles emerged, and the site continued to grow. Hope you enjoyed the blast from the past, stay tuned as the trip through the galleries continues as old treasures are brought back for public display.
