Human beings, in the beginnings, acted following two basic instincs: reproduction and feeding themselves. That was all they needed to live, and that's how animals act as well.
But only searching for food and having descendants took us to where we are nowadays?


No. Art did.


Art is any human activity which isn't developed or created strictly to satisfy these needs. And that's what differs us from other animals.

When the humans started to clap their hands randomly, to create an appealing song, THAT was art. Later, that random sound was developed until it turned into nowaday's music.
When they painted in the caves, THAT was art. Today, we use chalks, pencils, even the computer.


But the art aren't only the music, the drawings, the theatre or the cinema; art is almost EVERYTHING we do, since we get up in the moring until we go back to bed at night. Except eating and making love.


You can ask me, "what happens then with hunting and love techniques?"

Hunting wasn't art; humans needed it to survive. However, when the first weapon was developed, we can call it art, because it's not neccesary to survive, but to kill faster and safer. That's why, nowadays, hunting can be considered as art.

When I refered to reproduction, I meant ONLY reproduction. Poses during the act, or any love sign shown to your pair is someone the humans have created. We could have descendants without them, couldn't we?



Now, let's talk about the main point, now what we've seen what is really art.

And that's the main problem here in DA.

Sentences like "Recolour/manga/art-remixes/photography/that kind of poetry/stories is NOT art" and "This is Deviant ART, not a place where you can post your photographies", can be commonly read all over the website.

Please, stop that. One thing is proper art, and other thing is if it's original or if you like it.

ALL THE THINGS MENTIONED ABOVE ARE ART PIECES. Yes, even recolours. They're NOT drawn to search for food, not talking about making love...

Maybe you don't consider them ORIGINAL. Original art is way more appreciated than no original pieces, such as recolours. Maybe you don't like manga because you don't consider it original enough - the characters usually follow the same style. Remixing art? OF COURSE the pictures in there are not made by the artist, but do you know how difficult is to combine them to make an appealing composition?

But that's your opinion. Maybe other people can appreciate the time spent in each one of the pictures.

Taking photos of yourself and posting them helps the other people to understand your art better. When you study poetry, the first thing you do is studying the poet, don't you? And isn't inventing a story/poem difficult enough to not consider them art?

Maybe they're TOO original. Modern art has been rejected and even called crap. The typical sentence cames to my mind: "This could have been done by my 5-years-old sister".

Do you want to know why your 5-years-old sister's art is not in art museums?

Because she hasn't studied art at the university for years, and has decided to dedicate the rest of her life to INNOVATE, to create a new style of art we all can enjoy.


If you don't want recolours/manga/art-remixes/photographies/that kind of poetry/stories, then change Deviant Art's name.




Because everyone can create art.


Original or not.


More beautiful or less beautiful.


And this is a place where we can share it with the world.
