I love animals. I really do. I never thought I would love Bassets though until I met my hubby, (~
NDBBM) 12 years ago. He had one then. Her name was Maggie and she was something else. She lived with his mom and I'd go over there to see them and she'd be pretty happy to see me. She'd always be up to no good, too. We'd come back from something and she would have gotten into the peanut butter or whatever else she could find. If she had the chance, she would dart out between our legs and run down the road... only, she'd get about 3-4 homes down and then... stop where she was and lay down.

She'd look at us as if to say, "Ok, who's coming to pick me up now?" and we'd go get her.

She was awesome...
After we got married and into our first house, we got our first basset hound. She was the runt of the litter of course and she was soooo cute. We named her Sassafrass or Sassy for short. She would love to smell hubby's shoes when he got home from work. He'd take them off and all you'd see were her ears sticking out and hear a sniffing sound. Allie, our german shepherd mix came later on that year and we had our little family. Allie would chew on hubby's shoelaces and Sass would jump into the clean laundry WHILE I was trying to fold. About a year later... we lost Sassy the day after Christmas. We tried everything we could to save her, but... We cried and cried and every now and then we still do.
We weren't sure if we were going to get another basset. It was January 2004 and we were still heartbroken of course, but we talked about it and Allie was lonely, too. So, I called the breeder who we'd become friends with and told her what happened. She felt so bad and had said that Sassy's mom had just had her last litter ever that past Thanksgiving and we were welcome to come and pick out a new pup. And so we did.
Snickerdoodles or Snickers as we like to call her is hilarious. She and Allie play and run around and their very happy. She is such a ham. While Allie digs, Snickers will roll onto her back in the yard and sunbathe herself for the longest time. When the sun starts to set, she wants to come in lol. This is my family and I just wanted to share with you. I have many stories, both hubby and I do. I also have lots of pics and I should load more of them.. I just might do that. But, for now, I just wanted to pay tribute to the Basset Hound. That's the mood I'm in today and I wanted to share this with you if you don't mind. Enjoy!

Do you love them as much as we do? Do you have pictures of your favorite pets/animals that you want to share? Share with all of us when you comment by adding a link. Share the love...
