Giving to those who are truly in need

=ImaRawkStar:iconImaRawkStar: reports, December 23
This is the time of year of which we all get tangled up in our own troubles and do not focus on some of the real issues of the world. Well, heifer.org can help us with this, by giving animals to families who are truly in need of food, shelter and security.

By donating a small sum of money, such as ten to twenty dollars, you could provide a family with an animal such as a cow, which could produce milk for the family, for food and cooking. With the extra milk it produces, the family can go to the local market and sell the milk to gain more money, which could go towards food and shelter. Over time, the family will start to gain an income and will be able to earn an education.

With the education, they can receive a steady job and produce a stable income for the family to survive. Just by donating a small sum of money, you could not change one life, but many around them. But this is not just it, the family MUST produce offspring to give to another family, which will do the same thing as the family before. Over time, the community will grow and sooner or later, the impoverished areas will start to gain strength.

Even if you can not donate any money, please donate a few seconds or minutes by adding a favorite to this article and sending it on to other deviants around deviantart. It would be really awesome if we could get some support on this, and maybe as an art community we can pull together to help others in need! I know it can be done!

DA Stock Providers - Respect and Recognition

~Ladymalk:iconLadymalk: reports, May 21, 2008
The artists who provide stock and resources applications to DA community represent a really significant part not only of this place’s spirit, but also of the site. Every day, at least a new stock provider is born. The reasons are variable; some of them wanna give back to the site; some of them have amazing skills in their own areas and wanna share it with the world. The important thing to notice is: these people do art and let the others enjoy the work, in a free way most of the time. This kind of attitude says a lot about a person – for start, they are generous.

So why there is almost no retribution to their generosity? Or, at least, some respect and recognition?

Every day, we see DA artists being ripped, abused and stolen. Every day we watch amazing artists giving up and deciding not provide stock, or application resources, or even leaving DA because people are rude, disrespectful and annoying. Almost every day I read a journal where the artist complains how people around here say the most horrible things about their art. It goes from “your art sucks” to “It’s pornography”. Meanwhile, hundreds and hundreds of pictures, zips and brushes are downloaded without any credit, any signal of the work was valuable and recognized as somebody else’s job.

Recently, DA lost one of your most incredible stock providers, :iconpiratequeen-stock: . And you wanna know why it happens? In her own words:

I re-opened my stock here recently to "test the waters" unfortunately I'm still having trouble with getting half of the people to follow the rules, especially this rule...

"BE CREATIVE! Do NOT use my stock if you're only going to do minor changes. Like only changing (hue/saturation, Texture overlay, burn/dodge tool, text/font on the pic, Changing color tint, only putting a border around the picture, etc, etc.) "

This is only an example. We see people ignoring the rules the stockers write all the time. It happens even to me – me, an average artist of DA. I don’t have millions of pageviews, I don’t have a huge gallery and I did some brushes moved by a “give-back-to-the-community” impulse. But all my brushes sets were massively downloaded – and just a few people respected the rules I established. And there aren’t so hard, wanna check out?

RULES:

* If you download, please :+fav:it!

* If you use, please give me the credit (adding my icon :iconladymalk:
in your comments) and send me a link back, so I can check it out and :+fav: as well.

How hard this could possible be?! Take less and three seconds to favorite something. I’m not a :+fav: horn; I just consider this is the easiest way to show to other artist that you liked the work enough to download it. If the major part of people looks incapable to do something this simple, I won’t even talk about comments or notes. It may be too hard *sarcasm mode ON*.

*sarcasm mode OFF*

I really wish there was a way to guarantee recognition to Stock providers. Maybe turning the : +fav: a request to download the files. I don’t know how this kind of thing would work in the site; but, at least, we would not be stolen by people who are supposed to belong to the same community as us. I wonder if the virtual attitudes reflect how those people act in the real life as well – if they are just plain rude, consider stealing things and claim other people’s work as their own as normal activities, or if they can’t read, or respect, rules. Maybe a mix of all this. It’s sad, and impolite, and it’s the kind of attitude which says a lot about so many people around here – and also, about the world we live today.

To close this little article, I wanna apologize in advance of any writing/spelling mistakes – English isn’t my first language but, as I wanted these words to reach a bigger amount of people here, I decided to write it in a way it would be more easily understandable. And, as homage and a big THAN YOU to these artist who still doing amazing stock works, I decide to feature my own personal favorites Stock Providers. If you are one of the artists around who respect and credit your sources, go visit them. If you are one of these rude thieves, please stay away.

Personally I have never had a problem with a lack of respect and gratitude from the deviants.

I also respect that not everyone has a high level of skill and the art they make with stock might not be fantastic compared to someone else but it might be the best they can do.

the trouble is if auto faves happen everytime a download occurs it will give a highly inaccurate reading to the fave system.. brushes for example get downloaded quite a fair bit now that wouldnt be fair to the regular artists now would it? and as a whole ive not come across too many rule breakers regarding my stock myself but i can appreciate it happens but on the other hand there will always be beginner artists that are testing the waters with filters and hues everyone has to start somewhere

I often download something like brushes to see if I like them. Brushes frequently look quite different in Photoshop than they do on the pack. If I like them, I'm happy to use them, but I won't download anything from someone who demands a :+fav: I think it's egocentric at best.

I find it interesting that you ask the 'thieves' to avoid `lockstock. Last I checked she didn't really have any rules. She's about as unrestricted as model stock gets.

I agree with ^Hanratty-Stock, as well. Everyone has to start somewhere. Experimenting with things like changing the hue and such are part of the learning process. While I most certainly believe stock artist are artists, you are hardly contributing to the creative process if you make such demands that someone either can't use your stock or has to break your rules.

So far I have not encountered anything but kindness and gratitude from people who use my stock.
