PROJECT: Spreading love is priceless

*Talei:iconTalei: reports, November 9
What does love cost? Its priceless! It costs nothing. Well, okay, perhaps that isn't quite true. It costs a little bit of time and a lot of affection. And maybe a sprinkle of passion, too.

How would you feel if you opened a library book and found a note saying that you're a beautiful person for being who you are? What if you logged in to your deviantART account, and found similar messages in your message center, would it make you smile? Excuse me for being presumptious here, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it would.

Music fans, be very afraid!"

~LinkMasterJ:iconLinkMasterJ: reports, 22h 1m ago
In 2010, ISPs will be turned into copyright cops and be required by law to filter out anything they think might be pirated material. This will mean monitoring sites that offer user-created material. Given the enormity and complexity of that requirement, consider the chill that will cast over music sites, even perfectly legal ones. Could many of them be forced out of business? What about bands who give away music?

DeviantART Has Changed...

~Only-truth:iconOnly-truth: reports, May 30, 2008

DA has Changed

and not for the better . . .

I have been on DA for TWO AND A HALF YEARS and have noticed a lot of changes happening to DA!

Firstly...

The Introduction of COLLECTIONS means that people no longer have to view the work to :+fav: it or add to their collections.

Secondly...

The NUMBER of Deviants people watch on DA has DRASTICALLY increased.

Thirdly...

The AMOUNT of artwork being submitted is also INCREASING

Because of these THREE reasons, DeviantART is...

NO LONGER ABOUT ART

People are going around and FAVING and COLLECTING artwork without appreciating what the person has spent time creating or capturing.

This has been brought about by the new system DA has put in. This means that people no longer appreciate the work put up on here, and only take a quick glance at it before moving on to another piece of work.

Please Note that this is not DeviantART's fault but the Deviants fault

People have spent hours on some things creating artwork to post on here, and very few people actually take proper notice of how much effort has gone into making that piece, they don't even read the artists comments which go with the pictures. Also, because it's so easy to collect work, and go, people don't spend the time to write comments.
I have over twice the number of watchers i had 2 years ago, but i get less comments overall on my work!

Also, I have noticed the use of Control + C and Control + V is being used a lot. People no longer bother writing comments based on the work that is being or has been faved, they just write out a set comment and paste it into every box. I came across this with a new club i'd started up, where i Faved some work, and got a comment on the main DA page saying "Thanks a lot for the :+fav: Btw... you have a great gallery!" yet, we had all of 1 deviation in the gallery, and when i checked his activity, at least 12 other deviants he'd posted to around the same time, had exactly the same message!

I feel people no longer use DeviantART for appreciating art, but for trying to get through everything as quickly as possible.

Not everyone does this, but an increasing number do.

If you agree with me, please fav this article, and if not reject it

I want to know how many people also think this is happening. And if you disagree, please leave a comment on why you disagree

The only way I can see of stopping this is to go back to the old ways, don't watch as many deviants, and appreciate the work they put in to their artwork more.

Devious Comments

:iconzazou8:
I think in a way you're right... But I always thought DA was too big to really get all the attention everyone's work desirve.

If you're not popular, it's really hard to get attention even if your art is the best in the world...
Dayly deviation and the popular section get a lot of attention on artists. But most of the time those ones are already known and don't care about it...

I guess DA should probably work on a new way to hightlight work of new people... It could be more interesting...

Anyway it's good you made this article. And see? I :+fav: it but I also comment! ^_^

If you see this it means I comment on your work... Why not try to come to see my gallery? ;)
:icononly-truth:
well it wasn't that large when i first joined up... but yes - DA and other Deviants should focus no those new people rather than people who already have status -- and i think people should stop watching soo many people as well...

yeah :aww: thanks a lot for both fav and comment  I'm glad you agree with me

Just need to send this to someone high up in the DA Admin now!

:iconundyingangel:
it's half an year since i joined dA...but it's obvious that people do not really care abt your work only if they know you face to face or if you're very popular.

even since i joined i realized how BIG dA is and what this means: little attention to details in fact. but it's a problem which every community on-line has..!

:iconherdervriend:
This is the best news ever! Good job brining it up here! Even if I use the collection thing to. I find it just worser than ever. The intro of this system, and the error of DA Maintenance just make DA, DAD...Deviant Art Dead....

:iconsweetkitty22:
Partly right and partly wrong..
I watch a lot of people, but also look at work and comment, because I like to give my view...
Some people fav my work and don't even bother commenting, so... yeah...
But if more people start making the effort to actually comment or something...
That's why I do these NEWS to show art I've liked ...

...But what REALLY is an artist...

:iconhappy-gnome:
I agree in part, although I think it largely comes down, as you say, to individual deviants rather than anything else. I have to admit I watch a large number of people, but I watch each of them because I am keen to see their latest work and spend time looking back over their previous work. I think the sheer size of Da means that the range of quality artwork of both mature and emerging artists is really quite good. I found it hard to watch a number of people before I subscribed though, and the updated message centre since subscribing has made life a lot easier just in terms of time spent clicking on things. So there are ways I guess to make sure the time spent looking is quality time, really engaging with peoples work.

:icononly-truth:
yeah that's quite true - or else if you've built up a friendship elsewhere or have influenced them a lot... but yeah - it's a pity because people used to care and enjoy the artwork on here... and it was large then but it was coping, i think people are just thinking that oh yeah, they watched me, i'll watch back and just dump all the stuff in collections... in fact, i'm pretty sure DA is now all about getting status and pageviews and becoming popular... hence why i'm cutting back on the number of people i watch... i'm not sure about everyone else, but i don't care about pageviews... but i do about the peopl who watch me, and i'm grateful for it

:thanks: i'm glad you agree, i just wish we could change it somehow... Yes the collection thing helps, but it's cut out a massive chunk of DA which is also the most important chunk... and yeah DAD

:icononly-truth:
yeah - im' not entirely sure it's how many people you watch but more how much they submit... if you spend enough time on DA, then yes you can look at a a load of deviations and comment... but if not... then you just drag and drop... yeah - we just need to give the incentive or something for people to comment somehow... Yeah news works well - but again fails... because people will just drag and drop the stuff in the news rather than viewing the original artwork - they miss out on the artists comment, the replies, and the title of the artwork that way...
