The world over, many artists are inspired by art of another medium: music. This universally emotional conduit has proven time and again how inspirational it can be when it comes to visual artists and the creations they bring into the world. Pretty much everyone can relate to the ethereal feeling of seeing a vision in your head when that certain song begins to play on the radio.
I, myself, am incredibly inspired by both music and lyrics in my own art, and decided to create a regular news feature specific to certain bands/musical artists to showcase the works on DA that have encapsulated those unique visions that music gives us all.
Bands are chosen by me based and searched in the DA database. I am more than open to suggestions if you would like to see a certain band or artist featured. Choice of art is based on personal opinion for original works inspired by songs/lyrics/bands. I will not be including fan art, concert photography, any art including use of the band's copyrighted album art, photography or logo (unless logo is applied to an original art work), or any "interpretations" of a copyrighted image the band has used. I will feature original art works, from an artist's imagination based on the featured band.
This Feature: NIGHTWISHNightwish is a Finnish female fronted symphonic power metal quintet, formed in 1996 in the town of Kitee, Finland.
Although they have been prominent in their home country since the release of their first single, The Carpenter (1997) and debut album Angels Fall First, they did not achieve worldwide fame until the release of the albums Oceanborn and Wishmaster, which were released in 1998 and 2000 respectively. Their 2004 album, Once, led to Nightwish video clips being shown on MTV in the United States and inclusion of their music in U.S. movie soundtracks. Their biggest U.S. hit single, Wish I Had an Angel (2004), made it onto three U.S. film soundtracks as a means to promote their North American tour The band produced three more singles and two music videos for the album, as well as Sleeping Sun, from the 2005 best of compilation album, Highest Hopes, prior to vocalist Tarja Turunens dismissal.
In May, 2007, former AOR act Alyson Avenue frontwoman Anette Olzon was revealed as Turunens replacement, and in the autumn, the band released a new album Dark Passion Play, for which the band is currently touring.

If you know of, or have any, art pieces you'd like to share based on Nightwish's music that I have not featured here, please post a comment below and share it with us! And as always, feel free to recommend bands or artists you would like to see in future features.
Until next time...
