Let your originality enhance your fan art!
With the kick off of ^
projecteducate's
Fan Art Week, it is fitting that we have a mini-competition to hopefully excite and inspire Fan Artists, Fan Appreciators, and Fan Art Skeptics!
The Details!
The idea of the contest is straightforward and pretty darn simple! You pick your favorite fandom (book, movie, cartoon, etc), and you draw it in a style that is either new to you or new to the media in which it was presented. If you like a specific anime, try drawing the characters in cubism. If you like a tv show, why not draw them in an anime style?
The choice is yours alone, and whether it is a recognizable style based on an art movement or a style exclusively unique to you, the judging will be based on the quality of the work and how creative you really are.
DO:- Integrate a style that is unique to your fandom! If it is a book, you'll have to get extra creative to catch the judges' eyes.
- Draw with love and passion. Your best work is created when you are in love with what you are doing... so enjoy your creation.
- Experiment with media that is new to you! Digital painter? Why not try some watercolors! The sky is the limit!
DON'T:- Copy the existing style. If you want to draw Naruto, don't make it look like the original, make it unique... make it fresh!
- Pick a fandom you don't like. You need to be inspired, and the only way to do that is to pick something that you enjoy.
- Be afraid to try something new.
Rules & Resources!
Rules:1. All deviations must abide by dA policies and rules! Please try not to make it mature as I want our entire audience to be able to enjoy the pieces.
2. No usage of copyrighted images. If you are photomanipulating, please respect the stock you are using.
3. No photography or literature*. Everything else is fine EVEN if it can't go under the Fan Art submission tree (I.E. 3-D, photomanipulations)
4. In your description, please try and describe a little about what makes your piece different than the original creation or what you did specifically that makes it unique from your normal style.
5. All submissions must be sent via a note to ^
ArtisticAunJuli by the deadline. Please make sure these are new submissions specifically for the contest, the idea is to work under the pressure of the deadline! Thank you!
* = There will be an entirely seperate contest for Literature!
Resources:A good springing point to get your mind wrapped around some different styles and movements is to take a peek at what has been done before:
[link]You don't have to use this resource at all, but it might be helpful if you decide to draw Harry Potter in an impressionist style.
