We use them to test our skills in competitions, both by riding something much more powerful than ourselves as well as convincing the horse to love us so much he
wants to do what we ask of him (or her).
We use them for transportation - yes, even today. The Quakers & Amish still use horse drawn buggies to get around, and we use them as such too. I use to ride mine to the country store and the bank (and yes, I DID ride through the drive-thru with her

).
We use them as a sounding board when no one else will listen to us. I don't know about you, but that happened to me a lot. I was out in my stable constantly talking to my horses, telling them all about my day at school.
Most importantly, they are our best friends!!!! Who ever said dog was a man's best friend obviously didn't have a horse.

Always there when we need them, always listening, never judgmental, never tells us to shut up or that they don't care. Of course, if you bring a carrot or apple with you while you talk, that's even better.
Horses never hold a grudge, always forgive wrongs (although sometimes that's with held until they get their pasture buddy back), and love you unconditionally! What better friend is there?!?!
So, in celebration of the wonderful, incredible, stupendous, gorgeous, superbly talented and athletic horse, I have decided that this week I'll have a feature just for them!
Most of these featured are traditional art, some are digital, but none are photography. We have some terrific equine artists here at DA, and it's time we celebrate the HORSE through our talented DA Artists!!!
Enjoy the eye candy!! Be sure to click on the horses to go to the artist's home page, and then browse their galleries and spread some love around!

Now go out and give your horse a great big kiss .... and a couple of carrots!
