Steampunk is more than a "look" -- it's a growing subculture that may have started in the 1980s and the word itself may have been coined by the science fiction writer K.W. Jeter. It usually revolves around sci-fi, fantasy, and the Victorian era after the advent of steam power, but with many present-day high-tech devices either modded to simply look Victorian-made or built entirely from scratch. But if you think Steampunk is only about fashion, then think again, because many things like computer keyboards and guitars have been modded and Steampunked for quite some time now!

Artisan Crafts ABC

^Myana:iconMyana: reports, June 10

A - Artisan Crafts (AC)

Tangible craft work created by the artist, including leather working, glass-blowing metalwork or textiles crafted for utilitary use.

Artisan Crafts on dA refers to anything of a 3D nature that is not traditional art (painting, traditional sculpting, etc). The categories try to stick to traditional Artisan Craft media, yet have additional categories for more modern takes on the genre. Generally anything hand made that serves a function and is also seen as a work of art or has artistic elements to it.

B - books the Artisan Crafts ways

C - costume vs cosplay

The Costume gallery in Artisan Crafts > Textile is has a lot of miscats of cosplaying photos, ie photos of strangers at a con, photos where the costume can’t be seen due to the pose or it’s a close-up or the costume wasn’t made by you.
Those aren’t allowed in the Artisan Crafts gallery and are relocated to a more fitting gallery in Photography
Read this informative article for more about this issue: [link]

D - Dolls

The Custom Dolls gallery is for dolls made by you and are created from bases or by hand and are usually of porcelain, vinyl, or hard plastic. Custom dolls are not stuffed (those belongs in AC > Textile > Plushies). Custom dolls in stylished photos where no customization is visible due to light or pose belong in Photography > Still Life > Dolls & Figures. Handsewn clothes to dolls are to be submitted in AC > Textile > Clothing

G - Gallery Directors and the Artist Relations Team

The purpose of Artist Relations is to strengthen the community spirit as well as network with fellow artists so that we may bring outside opportunities to you, and help you to hone your skills. The Gallery Directors are the first people you should go to regarding your galleries.
They are the people you need to make gallery suggestions to, and ask questions about your specific genre, or seek knowledge from. They also act as your lifeline to the administration. They are here to support and listen, and I can tell you we've got incredibly talented, devoted and passionate people on this team, so get to know them!

S - Suggest a Daily Deviation for Artisan Crafts

FAQ #61: What is a Daily Deviation?
FAQ #18: Who selects the Daily Deviation and how is it chosen?
FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?

Artisan Crafts DD guidelines:

Send ^Myana or ^Kitten-of-Woe (the Gallery Directors for AC) a note with the link or thumb to the piece you are suggesting.

Please make sure...

• the deviation is submitted to the Artisan Crafts gallery
• the deviant hasn't recieved a DD within the last 3 month
• to include a write-up/blurb on why you think it deserves a DD
• to send your DD suggestions to one person only, or it can cause great confusion.

T - Traditional Art > Sculpture vs Artisan Crafts > Sculpture and Glass

This is causing a lot of confusion.
In Artisan Crafts, it mainly has to do with more handcrafted sculpture that serves a function and that isn't part of what one would call 'traditional'. However, it all depends on the artist's point of view.
If you're unsure where to place your piece, contact one of your AC GD:s or Traditional GD:s.
