Hyperrealism is a genre of painting or sculpture that can be mistaken for a high-resolution photo. This is an extension of Photorealism, which was created in the traditional since. The use of a photo for a reference to create something that is more definite and detailed. Everything about the subject would be taken into consideration, no detail left behind you could say. Everything is very tight and mechanical. Emotion or narratives are generally left out on purpose to create only what is real and in the moment.
On the other hand, Hyperrealism takes Photorealism to a more surreal degree, some would say. The Artist wants to create exactly what they see and embellish it to a degree of almost unbelievable realism, or a new reality. Every degree of the surface area is created to appear clearer than even the original subject matter. Hyperrealism stimulates reality for the viewer, when really it crosses the line of illusion.
"The simulation of something which never really existed. -Jean Baudrillard
There are many pieces of work on this site that have been confused for photos but that don't quiet make the grade for Hyper-Realism, including some of my own. It's hard to decide if a piece is hyper-realistic or photo-realistic...or even if just Realism is the base of that piece. But I've found some works that I think come as close to Hyperrealism as it gets on this site. This type of work tends to be a bit under appreciated so I wanted to showcase some artists that are pretty top-notch in creating the illusion of reality. Of course this isn't conclusive so let's just say this is a mix of Hyperrealism and Photorealism. I realize that some don't quite make the mark, but they are trying to get to that level, so support is welcome. It's up to you to decide what is Hyperrealism, Photoreaslism, or maybe even just Realism. It's all subjective.
Please take the time to check these out and enjoy.

you have chosen some great realist artworks
You are right that it's very hard to shape the definition of hyperrealism and that it's under appreciated. Maybe because on the first sight it's very simple and it takes a while to get inside the meta level of this kind of art. Or maybe it's just a matter of taste.
btw. great art in there xD

I guess that means they are so hyperrealistic that I couldn't tell the difference! lol...(or I couldn't read).
People do not seem to realise the great deal of effort and artistry required to produce any one of these pieces.
The production of an imaginary or non realistic piece, artistic and skilled as it may be, allows for a degree of flexibility and error that hyper/photo realism does not. In order to produce a realistic piece every aspect of the piece must be completely believeable or the illusion is lost. As people already have preconceptions of how they perceive the world this makes it even harder.
I do hope that articals like this help to enlighten the community regarding the level of talent among us and the sheer effort and skill that makes these peices what they are.
Thankyou
