Better Digital Photography Magazine-Free online

^kkart:iconkkart: reports, November 26
From the Publishers of "What Digital Camera" and "Amateur Photographer", IPC Media today has announced a new online photography magazine, "Better Digital Photography" that people can read free and fully online, it is also interactive with embedding video tutorials from the magazine and mouse-over tips. Aimed at the entry and intermediate level photographer, it is heavily devoted to equipment and technique-focused photography content.

From the IPC Media website:

Publishing director Alex Robb says: “This is an exciting and innovative new venture for the photo portfolio. The editorial team have worked incredibly hard to create bespoke content, including technique videos and other interactive content. I am delighted that we have secured distribution to around two million photographers to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the excellent tips and advice. Better Digital Photography is a further indication of how IPC continues to innovate in this competitive sector.”

Editor Mat Gallagher adds: “We wanted to create a product that helps the reader expand their knowledge, while being easy to use. It is thanks to the talents of art editor Steve Crabb that we have managed to produce such a visually stimulating and accessible magazine that surpasses anything else in the market place.”

My thoughts, this is downright awesome and VERY well done, it is like looking at an actual magazine, but the fact that it has videos embedded within for tips, tutorials, and techniques, make this even better! You can also subscribe for free, via email for upcoming issues, make personal notes within the magazine, and download a copy to your hard drive. GO GET IT!

Is deviantART becoming full of followers?

~ishtrish:iconishtrish: reports, June 14, 2008
We all love good photography from  or a funny comic from :iconrimfrost: but are the people of deviantART looking through the new deviations like glass?

Recently, I've worked on a project titled "Most Looked at Genre of Images." This project was done by clicking on "Browse" and clicking "All Time." I then looked at the type of image under each image, recorded it, and then averaged it out. (No, I can't remember the results because this was in the beginning of this school year.) BUT, the results weren't the point of telling you this information. The point was on all the artwork I saw with very few favorites on them. The art itself astonished me but the number of favorites on these works leaves me wondering, are we deviants ignoring the amateurs?

A few things I've seen recently that have few favorites are: [link] by :icontoxic-ario-pop:, [link] by :iconsunsets:. I know you must have seen something when you were moving your mouse to "Popular." Why didn't you take the time to look at the "Newest?" Maybe you could be the first favorite of the next big thing!

After my surfing (I'd say 2 hours... :P), I looked at a deviation with a whopping 17,148 favorites (The most popular deviation in PHOTOGRAPHY of a Desu Noto Cosplay.) The most favorites I've EVER gotten were 4 on a stamp. I personally believe that sometimes, we look at the popular things with following eyes and look straight through beauty in new things. Can you seriously believe that a cosplay is #1 for photography? I'm going to saw the word astonished again, because I am truly astonished that cosplays have gotten that popular.

So, I guess what I am trying to say here is, deviants need to stop clickin' on "Most Popular" when "Newest" holds greatness too.

Ever think about how popular deviations start as new deviations? If you said no to that in your mind, I seriously didn't either until today. I was reviewing my project and surfing dA and looking at newest. I was like, woah, mann! So. In conclusion, I want to say stop moving your clicker to the popular like little girls flocking to Hollister!

Another thing, don't favorite your friends' work because they tell you to. Distribute your favorites to things that deserve it rather than things that already have it.

 Thank you for reading.

Please excuse spelling errors, my spell check isn't working. XD

Agreed. :P

Sometimes I find new deviations that far surpass the popular ones in ingenuity and quality.

I don't mean to take away from popular deviations that are truly great and deserve all of their favorites, but some people never give amatuers a chance.

Yes, I agree with you totally.

And some deviations that are popular actually are really stupid...

There is nothing love cannot face.

I would have to agree wholeheartedly on this. I've been on DA for 6 years, and in that time I've seen thousands of followers. I've watched hundreds of people beg for faves on dAmn, and then act like they are entitled from the faves they begged from others to talk dirty about deviations which don't have mass appeal. I refuse to be a follower, or beg for faves... which is probably why in my 6 years I haven't gotten many but the ones I earned.
Personally, I love looking through new stuff, and I can't believe some of the crap that becomes popular.
The upcoming transformation of DA to v6 is coming soon. I haven't turned off v6 in over a week. I love it! For those of you who haven't seen the new site redesign yet... guess what! Newbies are finally getting promoted!
Daily Deviations and the watchlist is on the BOTTOM of the main page. All the new deviations are on the top of the page, so in order to get to the popular stuff, you'll have to see all the new stuff.

Many of my friends have followers. Many who are annoying. So having followers isn't always great in fact many people who are popular wish favorites where disabled because of the their followers.

I watch many people on DA who are super talented are only getting 2 favorites even though they have hundreds of pictures. For example: [link]
or [link] who's EVEN younger than me! Or even [link] or [link] , or [link] I'd go on but I watch so many under-rated artists this post would take all day to write.

Many people should look at new, and not just popular.

You're so hot you cause global warming!
:iconetrocal:
Being an un-favorited person, I totally, agree.
By the way, I do browse newest.

You're so smart! You deserve a cookie! Come over! Nao!

But yea, seriously. I do personally spend like 20 minutes a day browsing newest. I think is people are lazy enough, there should be a random new button on the bottom there[points down] It would be awesome if you found the data, I'm really curious OoO
