^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, August 30
An interview with ex-GD, writer, editor, fascinating person: `GeneratingHype. Here are some tidbits from the interview (which I recommend reading in full):

"Letters presuppose a sort of authenticity, and I truly believe that a story—no matter the form—needs to be authentic and believable.

"Sometimes I wish I had stories such as "I wrote my first published poem at three and a half!" or "I started writing stories at two!", but writing never came easy for me and is still not very easy for me.

The Use of Adverbs in Fiction Writing

=DarcKnyt:iconDarcKnyt: reports, August 29
Adverbs are the endangered species of the adult fiction world. They're frowned on like putting a Baby Ruth bar in a punch bowl at a wedding reception -- not a good idea. They're also indicative of weak writing ... but why? This article covers why adverbs are evil and what you can do to avoid using them.

Introducing Crystal-Ink!

~Amriah:iconAmriah: reports, June 17
The Problem:

There are a lot of clubs for the lit community right now. I should know, seeing I've found my way into most of them. Unfortunately, many have a lot of rules and fancy points systems. Though they can be fun on occasion, other times I wish to have nice, supportive place to put my writing "out there" and get some inspiration and help from other writers who are equally passionate about what they do.

This is what *Crystal-Ink provides--a place where seasoned writers can further their already amazing skills in this very intricate art.

Mission Statement:

We are a literature community project dedicated to simplicity and development. Our goal is to be an aid to advanced writers who truly wish to improve the art and skill of their craft.

So, are you just another club that has an even more narrow audience than usual?

I will say this now, so everyone understands. *Crystal-Ink is not a club. Watching and joining are not requirements, though watching us is encouraged so that you can get continuous critique and have a sense of community.

As for our target audience, yes, it is a narrow range of people. However, this community was not meant to be a social place where everyone gathers and throws out their attempts at writing in order for them to be posted and tucked away in the club's gallery. We do not submit anything. Only works =illuminara and I find simply amazing will be featured. We are a community meant to inspire and help, not merely socialize and post. If you are looking for that, we have plenty of affiliates who are more than eager to add you to their happy ranks.

How do you plan to help writers improve?

By giving them thorough editing/grammar advice and tips, working with them step-by-step if need be (if they are willing to put up with some hardcore critiques), or just answering any questions they might have.

Won't you be a little busy with all that writing?

We hope so! If this project grows beyond our ability to handle, we'll be asking for people to give us a hand.

Now check us out!

Sound good? Head over to *Crystal-Ink and check it out! There's a lot more detailed information and projects to get involved with in our journal that we hope will satisfy your hardcore writing needs. See you there!

Sincerely,
*Amriah

OK, enough ranting. Let's get this show on the road!
