The forum Act One Art has made it official to its members that they will be organizing their first art pack since v1 of the forums. It will feature art from members of the site such as Smiling Demon, wormo, INXS, and other members of the little known forum.
Act One Art, better known by members as AO has many well known artists in its arsenal including its famous admin Fresh Israel or GLORIOUS. Act One Art as has many values core artists would love to see in other sites. This is AO's mission statement as written by it's former admin 2shae.
"There has been a lot talk going around about whether we are goiing to have ratings or not.
Well here it is, no.
When me and ccs (and GLORIOUS soon after) decided to create this site, we didn't intend to create a "GFX site". This is an art forum for art of all kinds, and in saying this, we do not want to demean some and make others arrogant because their name has a "semi-pro" or "novice" next to it. Everyone is equal, and we gain respect by making meaningful works of art that people enjoy looking at, not by following a tutorial and making "hawt FX", its simply not about that.
So in conclusion, we feel that ratings are obsolete when it comes down to whether you like something or not, its up to you, your soul, thats where art originates from in the first place. Don't make tags just so that you can hopefully get rated intermediate or what-not, make it because you want to express yourself, to make something nice, or to see how people enjoy your creations.
I hope you all take this into consideration, and may you follow Act One into a new generation of art."
Im sure many artists here would love these values. And hopefully many will find Act One as a place that they would love to spend there time online and post their work to get critique from some of the best. I myself since joining Act One have decided to quit all other sites besides dA and AO to let my artistic juices flow. Read this post by one of our members, INXS.
"My appoligies for double posting, but, I just wanted to say that after re-reading this I have found a little peace inside of me to continue to do what I love the most. I have found it a need to move myself away from sites that dont seem to handle tagging, designing, or art as a whole. After constant argument with my class staff about how things should be done, I just ended up draining myself in the process by fully understanding myself more, and leaving the "main stream" classing alone. Everyone wants to look at things as "appeal" rather than accepting work as a whole.
I have to realize that classing is just a waste, and by realizing that, I have freed myself from these shackles and left my sites. Sites full of beginner designers and the such, just, made it harder to grab inspiration to design. Sticking to sites like AO, and others, are about the only way to be able to gain the true inspiration because you are hanging around people with sheer talent, without limits and can pass on that inspiration to you to get better.
Personally, I hate to leave the site I admin'd for, but, I have to find my true worth and move on as many have to achieve my own graphic design goals.
Thanks skybringdeath for pointing out some things for me, it has helped me pull away from it all.
Cheers."
We are a different site away from the crowd and we would love to have some of you guys to hang. It has also been discussed if the Art Pack is successful, an art group would be started. So stay tuned for more updates on this. You can visit Act Once Art at the URL,
