Unseen Artists

=DiKeih1:iconDiKeih1: reports, June 19
Over my time on DeviantArt, even before I had an account, I've always wondered the same thing. "Why do these artists go unseen?". I've come across some amazing artists (in my oppinion) that have very few faves, comments, etc. It's like they're new artists while other's who have been here for only a short time have faves, comments, and are already well known.
Artist such as *giovannag who is one of the most well known artist I know. Has only been here since 2004 and has 97 Deviations but has 1,043,455 Pageviews.

The same goes for *AiKo-FriKkI to whom has been here since 2004 and only 57 Deviations but is with 729,889 Pageviews.

Then we have *purplenekochan who has only been here since 2007 has 53,876 Pageviews while she only has 7 Deviations.

All of these artist are amazing and well known though some of them haven't been here very long.
So now I ask, what about those artists who have very nice art that isn't colored, doesn't have to do with Naruto, etc.
Artists such as ~Mad-Hatters-Hare who has been here since 2007 and has 105 Deviations but only 3,010 Pageviews. Her art, some colored, some not is still just as nice as those above; just in a differant way.

The same goes to ~MegumiTakani13 who's actually a new artist. They've been here since Feb 2008 but has 107 Deviations but only 1,835 Pageviews. Their art looks almost exactly like the real thing, colored and all.

We also have :Hiei-Minamino-17: who's been here since 2007 as well. They have 280 Deviations but only 4,548 Pageviews.Their art most uncolored but the line art or shaded art is still amazing.

Now I ask, what's the differance? The lack of "professional" coloring? Of many the lack of Naruto or Bleach characters.
I must say that I don't see the differance between any of these artiss. They are all amazing artist to whom I'm huge fan of, but why do some get more attention then others?
I've noticed that all of these artist are anime artists and thus I've narrowed the art to one category. All of theseartist have drawn in an "anime-like" style. They all have that in common, they also all draw both fan characters and original characters.
Have I maybe missed something between each of these artists? Something that makes some of them more noticed then others?
I'm aware that people don't draw or work on their art for pageviews or comments and such. I, like many others, am like that. I don't draw for pageviews or anything like that.
ll of us should admit that we like comments and faves though. We all like to know that people like the art we work so hard on.
The question I'm posing is, why are their so many unseen artists? I understand the feeling of the unseen artist because I too am one of them.
I have been here since 2006 and have 505 Deviations (and 19 Scraps) but with a simple 6,000 Pageviews. Most of my art is anime art as well. With that said, I also have photography, pixels, etc.

Why work hard on art that no one notices? That's all I ask. I know many uneen artist ask the same thing. We work just as hard on our art as those who's art is noticed and loved while we hardly get comments on most of our work.
I'm sure there will be many more unseen artists to come in the future and they'll pose this question again and again.

The list of reasons that this may be the case is almost endless. Many people become well known through their eforts at networking, self advertising, collaboration etc... Great art plays an important role. It is much like any business in that providing good quality product will increase repeat custom, people who really enjoy looking at a work will come back again and again and are more likely to spend money.

Also, the maturity of the work and the presentation are important. As an example (and not trying to bag anyone out) the last line of images you supplied are submited completely unedited, the lighting quality is poor, the images are on angles and the binding of the sketchbooks are evident.

In many peoples opinion this shows a lack of seriousness. Most computers have at least a program such as paint for instance, which will crop the binding off and fix the angle. It is a two minute job that makes a really big difference in the way people view your work.

On a site such as deviantart there are other factors such as popularoty of the subject matter, some subjects cater to a minority, and that doesnt mean that they are unloved its just that the target audience isnt very large. There is also the vastness in terms of actual deviants, as well as varying degrees of seriousness/dedication amongst those. For these reasons alone there will always be a huge number of 'unknown deviants'

At first I thought the exact same thing why go through the effort I mean I have what about 34 deviantions and I just hit 1000 page views but after awhile I figured out that I was trying too hard to get people to notice my work but then I realized whats the point and just figured that are all those pageviews and favorites are not that big important to me

well... I'm here since December 2004, have 60 deviations and 14 scraps, and I got 16,056...
And yes... It's all about your fan arts and all about how you are a dA whore sometimes... To *giovannag*purplenekochan and the other you shown, and some other artists such as *Michelle84,`Artgerm and so on, it's all about their amazing style and work... Of course there are people way better than them that are undiscovered... ~feimo for example is better than the two I mentioned and has less pageviews favs and comments... even *Wen-M that although he is a great artist has more favs, coments and pageviews than ~feimo, that in my opinion is way better.

It is very true that most of these great artist have been overlook but there are many more artist that are still in the 100s of pageviewers and only have around six watches and not many favs as well, I have found one of these and he has incredible art but is overlooked by so many; ~Microbxer a great artist he joined in mid 2007, 325 pg, and only 5 watchers, he is a excellent fan artist but sadly he is being overlooked.

I think we just have to push our way in. Talk to as many people as we can. You have to make yourself known. Otherwise no one knows you're there.
