`SparrowSong on writing, critique and her passions

^lovetodeviate:iconlovetodeviate: reports, September 28
An interview with writer, critic (critiquer?), lit senior, `SparrowSong. Here are some tidbits:

“I like that my passions change. If nothing else, it gives me more to write about.”

“Everyone has heard the expression, ‘Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.’ If you don’t learn to critique, you will always be dependent on others to help you instead of being able to do it by yourself.”

“Art changes how we view the surface of the world to reveal truth or beauty—or both—underneath.”

Angsty Literature Club

*Matadi:iconMatadi: reports, October 3
Since there is not much we are afraid of in the days of speeding optic cables, no need to talk sincerely since we do wear the egoist, shiny mantle of a digital avatar, why there is still "love" the most search after word on dA? We do have the need to touch and be touched,to smile, not often even cry, we are thirsty of eachothers footsteps in the sacred place called emotion.Living to tell we are so fragile, living to tell we are so strong, living to tell...

Take a rest, from time to time, step back and look around you,
catch what you see in a word.
what will it be?

Haikuwrimo - Summer 2008

`MSJames:iconMSJames: reports, June 23
In a tradition started way back in May of 2006 (Spring), the next Haikuwrimo is upon us! The first one of these held, had Spring as a theme, the second one that was held last Fall, had of course, Fall as a theme, so this year’s theme and kigo (or season word) will be Summer and the start is only week away!

This event has grown over and above any expectations I could have had. Originally it was intended as an exercise for us haiku-writers as a follow up to Nanpowrimo, or National Poetry Writing month, but this event has swelled into something much more than just an exercise. So many wonderful haiku have been written because of this event, but the best thing that has happened is that people have become educated as to what real haiku is and how it can be used to get in touch not only with the world around us, but our place in that world. In addition, some wonderful artwork has been created in tribute to this event. ~moyanII has worked her magic with ink and brush on every event since it’s inception (and hopefully she will again this year!) Just look at some of he work she has created for past events!

2006 - Spring: [link]
2007 - Fall: [link]

But enough of all that… So just what is the Haikuwrimo and how can I join?
(I thought you’d never ask!)

A Haikuwrimo is where everyone participating writes a haiku a day for a whole month (this time July) and to join in the fun (agony) all you have to do is note me and I will add you to the list of participants in a journal I will maintain.

Now many of you may want to know more about haiku, and that’s the best part, learning more about this simple, yet confounding poetic form. So many people have heard of haiku and probably been ‘taught’ how to write them at some point in their lives, but much of this teaching is antiquated and full of misunderstandings. Below is a list of some resources for those of you not familiar with how to write haiku in its true form (which is in spirit, not that 5-7-5 crap we all were taught). So please read and learn and ask questions, so when July hits, you’re ready to dive into a whole new world!

Here’s my take on haiku: [link]
And for more resources, see the nice list compiled here, at ~Wudang-mountain

For you past participants, you know the drill, so just note me and prepare yourselves!

And remember, the main reasons I hold this event are for the learning and friendships that spring forth!

So have fun and haiku away!
