Many of you have probably already heard about the crisis facing amphibians all around the world. One third to one half of all amphibian species are threatened with extinction, with probably more than 120 having become extinct in the wild over the last few years.
Amphibians may not seem interesting to everyone, but they are important environmental indicators, making them vital within the ecosystem. Amphibians are being affected by a Chytrid fungi, which is lethal to some species, but carried by others causing it to spread rapidly.
WAZA (The World Association for Zoos and Aquaria) has developed Amphibian Ark, a program to help rescue amphibians from this situation. Amphibian ark runs projects all over the world in conjunction with zoos, breeding rare and threatened species, and working on removing the fungal problem in the wild.
