If you've been following the previous "Video Art comes live, part I with =
CaNbO and part II with *
Jarmen, you'll find this continuation very interesting. To our opinion one of the best VideoART makers in our gallery. We introduce to you to Taylan Soytürk, known in the deviantART community as ~
Uomo-nella-Pioggia - How would you define video art?- For me, videoart is a performance of moving pictures which does not use many ingredients of the cinema like narrative, dialogues, literal content.. It is a kind of artistic experience that aims to look into media from another radical, elitist and artistic angle. Video artists have a personal point of view about a simple subject / idea and reflect that simplicity with their own experimental, conceptual and abstract narration without thinking about linear rules and common settings of cinematography.
In this case, expectations and visitors are different..A videoinstallation needs the ability to concentrate, more isolated and intellectual unlike the collective feel of the cinema.. Therefore, people often get confused about this new medium as they have expected a kind of common story-telling.. I think that type of approach to Video-Art will dissolve and they will assimilate it as videoart improves or I can say fade out as it becomes one more product of the popular culture when it finally integrates into advertising and music video making.
- Why were you first interested in this type of media?- I was first interested in this media at the university.. I was studying film and was really impressed by the videoart projections.. Then I began to discover more about it through lessons, while making my own first video. In time, I realized that I can express myself well with this medium more than the other media. Because, I thought it has more subjective and free space to experiment.
- Have you ever participated of an installation?- Yes, Ive participated of some exhibitions and short-film festivals in Istanbul, Prague etc. Besides, I got an opportunity to show some of my works on tv.
- What other media you explore, besides film?

Mostly photography which has a great effect on my videos, some collage works, and since I currently work for a TV channel as a motion designer, motion-graphics are part of my portfolio
- Who are your favorite artists?- D.Lynch, M.Deren, M. Duchamp, S. Brackhage etc.
- And your favorite genres?- I like experimental, abstract/surreal works..The works of non-narrative film-makers and cult horror movies.. . At the same time I dont like intellectual boredom of contemporary art and a commercial feel of cinema. Surely, it should force me think about its sub-text but also I should excite or wonder about the content and visual.
- What's your inspiration? - A color, a simple moment that I experienced , an ordinary image, a song or a feeling could be my inspiration.
- Any projects for the future?- I have three projects Im working on..Thinking of participating the festivals again depends on timing.
- What is your opinion on deviantART Film, thus far?- I think DeviantART Film is a great idea that many short-filmmakers and videoartists here can share their works and talent from now on. Its really great pleasure to see short film/videos here.Unlike some other video pages around the net, it has a great control mechanism in quality. Not only because of the invitation and infrigment system but also people in this site much more sensitive about their works. Because we all know that the viewers in this site have mostly an artistic experience and they have been looking for an art piece.. I know its gonna improve and we will see it more on the foreground as well as the other sections.
We would like to thank Taylan for his support and time spent answering this questions.
