A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
As a fellow artist of the Deviant Art community, I encourage and love supporting other artists; they deserve exposure for their art and for the beautiful people that they are.
With great honor I was given the opportunity to carry out this interview with a lovely soul, who is always willing to share ideas, be brutally honest with you, be quite open minded, offer as much advice as she possibly knows from her experience and, all in return for nothing but her passion for art.
Kathy- known as =evile33 has come a long way since she started her artistic journey and even though I didnt know her from the beginning of that period, I appreciate the time that it took to get to know her and her growing works of art. For those of you that know her, youll truly understand what I mean.
Her work stems from delicate and intimate studies of nature, be it macro, landscapes, animals, water and even more. Portraits are also another area of study with her photography, as you read further on, expect to be engaged by her words, and be sure to read her advice that she has for you guys.
~AtomicAcidbath: - (someone who knows her very well) In the simplest terms, and most convenient definitions, Kathy is a homemaker, a gardener, a knitter, an avid reader, a movie buff, a dishwasher, a financial advisor, a HAM radio operator, a window cleaner, a counselor, and a wife. She also takes pictures.
Photography is a mirror to her, not only of the external world, but to the worlds that exist within. Read on
F: Define photography based on your interpretation and what does it mean to you?
=evile33: My interpretation of photography is capturing a moment in time using light to write with instead of a paint brush, pencil, pen or even preserving the moment with words. I have never seen photography as being an accurate representation of the facts. In truth, you can never accurately represent anything. We all see things very differently, we all feel differently and our experiences are very different. These all shape the way we take a photograph.
What photography is to me is something which allows me to take a small part of the whole and make it my own. I can express myself, my conscience and my subconscious in ways I have never been able to. It has no limits I only limit it by my imagination and skills.
F: When did you first start your artistic journey in photography and who or what inspired you?"
Ee: I started my photographic journey quite late in life. Due to a series of lifes most unfortunate curses, I didnt take up photography until my early 30s.
No one actually inspired me to start photography it was already in my blood line. My mother is a good amateur, (I have seen some of her photographs) so was her father (I have no recollection of any of his work), and his brother was a Professional Photographer back in the 70s (never seen any of his either). I have only seen a few of my mothers photographs. I only know of her father and his brother through family history passed down.
F: What are you most passionate about in art and photography?
Ee: I would consider it me being more obsessed than passionate lol. All kidding aside, I am passionate about teaching others. I feel that constructive guidance is of the utmost importance to help others along in their photographic journey. The best thing about art and photography is the community helping each other to be the best we can be. This can only really be done with people that we have a respect for and a good relationship with. I wont help anyone unless help is asked.
I am passionate about trying new techniques, branching out with the post processing, whether I lose watchers or not, I go about these ways for my own personal reasons. The more I have to do with photography, the more I seem to find myself and who I am. I see myself in every image I take, good bad and even the ugly ones lol.
F: How long have you been doing photography and has this style of art influence you in any way?
Ee: Even though I have been doing photography for a few years I only consider the last 3 years to really count, more so the last 2 years. When I got my Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) I felt that I had just jumped off into the deepest end of the pool. It was definitely sink or swim time. Would it make me or break me? Apparently it didnt break me, or I wouldnt be doing this Interview with you lol.
Photography has influenced my life on all levels really. I see everything vastly different. I see how light affects and effects how we see and experience things around us; how it affects our realities. I kid you not, every day I do something related to photography.
F: Were you inspired by other photographers during your photographic journey? Who are your favorites?"
Ee: I was very much influenced and inspired by other photographers. Not the ones most people will boast about you know, Ansel Adams, Immogen Cunningham and so on. Although those people are FANTASTIC, and helped shape photography into what it is today.
I joined a website called Shutterfreaks.com back in 2004 and was blown away by the skill, talent, and knowledge the people there displayed. Their work touched me profoundly, especially one artist in particular named Ruud Peters ( [link] ) The way he uses light and dark to convey an emotion astounded me Really, I was floored at what he can do. Youll see that a lot of my own style has been heavily influenced by his work.
I was so limited at the time on what I could do that I was utterly crushed as to WHY I couldnt produce images half as good as he. At that time, I only had a 2mp point and shoot camera lol. When I was feeling the heavy burdens of my lame camera, another friend on that site, Phil Orgeron, had told me in my beginning days the BEST piece of advice I still carry with me. He said The camera is only as good as the skills of the photographer. I dont take much to heart, but in these words I did. He was quite right. I learned to push that little 2mp point and shoot to the limits. When it could give me no more, I finally took the plunge to DSLR. The learning curve was so intense I thought my head would explode lol. I quickly progressed and started to mix hidden artistic talent with the technical skills I was learning. I learned that fancy lenses and fancy expensive cameras can still produce crap images. I spent a lot of time asking questions, watching and doing to get where I am today. I thank those good people at Shutterfreaks.com for the photographer I am today.
F: What is your photographic style, and what are you most interested in photographing?
Ee: I really have no idea if I have a photographic style per se. Could people look at 120 images and KNOW that one of them is mine just by looking at it, not seeing if my name is on it? If so, then I guess I have a style and I wish someone would tell me. lmao
Obviously I am addicted to macro, I love being able to get as close as physically possible to my subjects. Its very intimate really (oh get your minds out of the gutter ). I do also love photographing candid shots of people. I feel you can truly see a person for who they are when theyve no idea they are being photographed. I would like to do more of that kind of photography, however in the day and age we live in, if you point a camera anywhere near a person they automatically think youre up to no good, thinking youre a terrorist or a pedophile It has become such a sad state for photographers these days. I digress on to the next question shall we "
F: Did you have any formal training?
Ee: I took a class back in 2004, desperately needing help understanding how aperture, shutterspeed and ISO related to each other. I had been floating around for about a year reading on the internet, yet I still just didnt grasp it. I need to actually SEE how they related. So I signed up for an introductory class. One day a week for 8 weeks. It was fun! I learned how important all three were, how they related to each other.
I am still on a quest to find a class to learn how to work in a dark room and making stunning black and white photographs. I want to learn to develop my own film. Since digital has taken over the world in one fell swoop, its becoming increasingly difficult to find any class on the subject. Thats the extent of any formal training I have had. Everything else is through trial and error, and boy have there been a LOT of errors along the way lol "
F: What equipment are you most fond of and not fond of using when you are producing your images?
Ee: I am quite fond of my Canon Digital Rebel XTi (400D), since the day it arrived; it fit me like a glove. The camera and I were one. I see it as an extension of myself not a tool. I predominately work with a 50mm 1.8 lens. Its pretty darn good and inexpensive as well. I have used it for night photography, photographing bands, portraits, candids, and most of all Macro. I use Kenko Extension Tubes, and sometimes Ill tape my 18-55mm kit lens to a tube "
F: Tell me about your evolution as a photographer and your developed techniques over time."
Ee: Hmmmm .. How have I evolved??? I have evolved as a photographer through constantly shooting. Whatever I am not happy with I go and do it again till it is acceptable to me. For me its more instinctual. Something in me keeps pushing for more and to produce better. I cant really explain; its abstract, not something tangible or concrete. "
F: What are your thoughts about the photographic world, what are your likes and dislikes?"
Ee: I feel that photography has opened peoples eyes to the world around them in a more profound way than any other artistic outlet. We see life, death, love, hate, people at their best and worse.
What I like about the photographic world is that I get to see other ways of life; I get to experience other cultures I would not be able to otherwise.
What I dislike is the age old film vs. digital , Photoshop vs traditional dark room techniques, Nikon vs. Canon and last but not least, this one is my favorite, photographs should not look like paintings arguments. They all make me sick to hear when people throw their bias around. I feel we should use whatever tools we are comfortable with. It is all personal preference. Why cant a photograph look like a painting if paintings can look like photographs? Why do people feel they have to limit themselves? I dont like limits when it comes to Art, I dont like people telling me what I can and cannot do when it comes to my creation process. Once we put limits on Art, we limit ourselves and Art thus dies.
F: How did you discover dA and what do you like most about it and the community?"
Ee: I discovered dA a few years ago. Back when I was first starting my photography journey. I wasnt good enough at the time to join, so I just browsed every now and again. Last May (or was it June ) I felt that I had decent enough work to display and tried to create an account. I got everything filled out and clicked to submit and BAM! I was welcomed by a you are banned display!!! Here is where I self censor After quite a few expletive words, and being completely dumbfounded on how I could possibly be banned when I had never been a part of the site before, I looked through the FAQs and found that dA bans by IP range so some idiot done screwed up and got everyone in the area banned So I was denied access to the biggest online Art community I feared not, this gave me plenty of time to get even better! I joined a site called MyOpera.com and had a small gallery there. I had some success, got a bit of recognition and was nominated for Best Photographer. I lost, but that wasnt any big surprise, the voting was completely messed up! They had people voting 50+ times for their friends, I kid you not, it was a mess. I had one stalker fan that creeped me out a lot. I dont mind people telling me how much they like my work, thats great! I do have a problem with someone constantly sending me messages every 5 minutes wondering why I hadnt commented back to a message they left on one of my images freaked me out! I do have a life outside of this virtual one So this prompted me to try AGAIN to create on account on dA .September 19th, 2007 after filling out all pertinent information, I became a member of dA! I finally had arrived I was so excited I sent hubby an email at 1:00 a.m. grabbed the best images I had at them time and started uploading. I had a quick response from the community and not even 2 months later I had received my first DD! I have grown so much since I first joined, that I recently went on a mass deviation deletion rampage. I did not want to be constantly reminded of how awful some of those other images looked like compared to what I do now lol.
I LOVE the people I have met here. Some have become very close friends that I cherish and adore, including the wonderful interviewer =FaMz I love the spirit the community here has, I have seen them come to the aid of others in great need. I have seen the power of acts of kindness, I have been the recipient of such wonderful friendship and love. I wouldnt trade any of you delicious deviants for anything in this world "
F: What are your artistic goals for the future? Ee: To keep doing what I do, only much better Maybe sell an image or two to Hallmark "
F: Would you like to share any other thoughts with us?"
Ee: I have a PLETHORA of other things to say, I always do Kidding aside, I want people to keep working hard at their Art, always present the BEST of your ability, be honest about it if and when asked, hide nothing, this is how we all learn. Dont let anyone tell you that you cant do something! Do it, and with all your heart.
Always remember that rules are mere guidelines when it comes to Art, they are meant to be broken and challenged.
I would like to take this moment to thank you my dear sweet friend for giving me the opportunity to do an interview. I am terribly sorry it has taken, what some 3 weeks I have enjoyed the questions, for they made me really think about my photography and how I approach it. Its been a fun journey my friend, Thank you "
And now a taste of this lovely artists artwork Ive included quite a variety and different genres of her photographic styles
What an interview. . . what a person! I´m very impressed by all those answers and it made understanding the special impressions about photography to me as an amateur easier.
I think we should all thank you =FaMz for carrying this out!

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music ♥
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
