Costume Maker Magazine #2: Help Wanted, Contest

*costume-maker:iconcostume-maker: reports, June 28, 2008
Now we're on our way to Issue number 2 of Costume Maker Magazine, and we're going to need all the help we can get to make it happen! The theme of this issue is "History and Fantasy: From Head to Toe" (though not that exact wording probably xD). Hopefully we'll be able to get this issue out by the end of August/beginning of September. ^^

About
Costume Maker Magazine is an annual magazine for cosplayers, historical clothiers, and all other costume makers. :D I started working on it (when I was 15) with help from many many people last May and the premiere issue came out in December. ^^ If you'd like to see more info about the magazine, you can visit the website here.

News
The whole website is redone, complete with a new gallery and many other nifty features. Now column/article/tutorial writers can submit their own pages and update whenever they want to (instead of going through an administrator). The main menu has also changed, allowing easier navigation throughout the site. :) More about the new site can be seen here [link] .

Help Wanted
Credit is always given. In the future when I start to make a significant profit, I hope to pay people for articles and such as well. There has been no profit on the magazine so far (actually, I've lost quite a bit so far, as printing is quite expensive xD). But I'm confident that in the future, with more advertisers, that will change and I'll be able to pay writers and photographers for their work. ^^

If contributing, you will want to check out the Submitting Guidlines and Terms and Agreements. ^^

Writers/Photographers
We still need a lot of articles for this issue. Any help will be much appreciated! To see what is still needed, please visit [link] .

If you have any ideas not listed there and would like to see if it can be included in the issue, please email Lina (~szmoon) at lina@costumemakermagazine.com . Thanks in advance! :3

Contest Entries/Prize Donations
Okay, so the contest has changed to be more fitting to the theme of the issue. xD

Theme of contest: "The changing of the seasons."
Any historical or fantasy costume relating to the theme can be entered. It can be relevant in colors, designs, or any other way you can think of (if you feel the need to include an explanation, feel free to do so ^^). Costumes will be judged on craftsmanship and originality (or quality of reproduction, if it's cosplay or a historical reproduction). Have fun!

More information on submitting an entry [Here].

Prizes
If no prizes are donated, they will be as follow:
1st Place: Costume featured on the cover, $20 gift card to Jo-Ann Fabrics & a copy of CMM Issue 2
2nd Place: $10 gift to Jo-Ann Fabrics & a copy of CMM Issue 2
3rd Place: A copy of CMM Issue 2

Prize Donation
Please see the information under "Advertisers" for more information on donating prizes.

Advertisers
In order to lower the price per issue, we really need to have more advertisers! It costs a lot to self-publish/print these magazines. x3 Any size ad is much apreciated!

Here are the sizes available:
(2 3/8" x 2 1/4")
(2 3/8" x 5")
(5" x 5")
Half Page: (7 1/2" x 5")
Full Page: (8 1/2" x 11")

Please email advertise@costumemakermagazine.com for pricing information. Thank you!

Special Deal
If you donate 3 prizes (one 1st, one 2nd, and one 3rd place prize) worth roughly $30 each, you'll get a (5" x 5") ad space in the magazine free.

----

Thank you everyone for all your help so far!! :glomp: I can't wait to see how this issue turns out!
~Lina

I'm happy to see you're back on dA!

And, I'll see what I can scrounge up for prizes... I have a few things in the works that might interest costumers, just gotta get off my butt and do them! As well as for advertising and whatnot!

When I can get a free minute today, I'll check out the site, too! Hooray!

Hey, love. I'm down South right now, but I can still work on articles in my spare time. I'll sally on over to the site at some point and see if I can't dredge up some ideas...unless there's something you want me to write?

Glad to see we're back in action XD We gonna make our projected publication date, this time? Or at least come within a few months? ^^ If you need any help, just drop me a line. I'll try and make myself useful.

Hello! My friend ~Jages just pointed me in the direction of this article, and consequently, your website! She informed me you're still in need of someone to write a review for ACen. I was an ACen attendee this year, and I'd be happy to help you out if I can. ^^ I've never written a review before, though, so if you could let me know what kind of information you're looking for, that would be great! Oh, but...ACen was my first con. Is a first-time con-goer's opinion alright for a review? ^^;

And, just curious, what sort of ACen pictures are you looking for? Between the eleven of us that went to the con, we have lots of good pictures, but we never asked for e-mails since we didn't know something like this might come along. ^^; If we happen to have pictures of the members of our group that apply, I can see if we can submit some of those.

First time con-goer is fine. ^^ Any information is really okay; maybe think around the lines of amount of cosplayers, quality of panels, events (masquerade, soap bubble, etc), atmosphere, etc. Would around 500 words (roughly) be okay?

Pictures of both individual coplays/groups and of the convention in general are accepted. ^^

I look forward to seeing your work, and thanks for your help!

Awesome! Sounds great. 500 words is fine. ^^b Do you have a deadline by which you would like the review? I'll try to get on it as soon as I can, but I'm also working on a huge research project. ^^;

I'll talk to my friends about pictures we might be able to send when I see them this weekend. ^^b

Thanks so much for letting me help out with your project! I will do my best!!
