7 Ingredients Of Good Corporate Design

`manicho:iconmanicho: reports, October 8
A great article at Smashing Magazine that every designer should check. If you're into Coroporate Design, I'm sure you will find this info really useful.

It’s hard to define design. We have a broad range of definitions to choose from: design refers not only to graphic design, but to design strategy, too. It is used in a variety of industries, such as engineering, architecture and Web design.

This means that design is not just graphical in nature (which is a form of visual artistic representation), but also the planning of processes to achieve certain goals. Large corporations clearly understand this and incorporate every form of design into their strategy to achieve success.
For a good corporate design, we need to be aware of two main elements, which can be further broken down into a total of seven “ingredients”.

The Little Things That Matter

~RainbowFever:iconRainbowFever: reports, October 8
"The Little Things That Matter" says it all, don't you think? No?
What I CAN tell you is, if you come here, you can see all the stories and meanings I see behind people's artworks! I'm not saying my opinion is or isn't one or the best, but if you're like me, you'd say, "Hell, who cares how professional it is or isn't, every opinion matters!" ;P

How can you make the most of your Resources...??

Presentation.

By creating yourself a logo or a certain style of co-ordinated presentation you will find that you can unify your gallery and at the same time it serves much like a marketing promotion technique used to promote your resources. There are many ways this can be accomplished from a mere simple band with your account name and info on, to a presentation template or pack.

You may find that it can sometimes be easier to upload your textures or Stocks, in a pack rather than singularly .The most common method is to have a downloadable zip file together with preview image showing our members a sneak peak as to what you have inside the pack. Similar processes can be used for many if not most of your resources.

Here are a couple of Templates that have been made available if you are unable to create your own.

A few Random examples

Textures

First and foremost it is always good idea to try and aim for the best quality you can offer or achieve, so the quality over size rule often applies. A good quality texture you can enlarge whereas a large out of focus and grainy image is hard to use due to loss of detail ,don’t forget there are many artists that will go on to make prints from their final imagery and this is one thing that they sometimes look for.

BRUSHES

Again it is easy to make a sweet presentation preview of your brushes. Sometimes there are members that do not have the luxury of owning the newest of editing software, so to help them out you can always include an image pack of your brushes so they create them themselves. This you would also include in your zipped file.I would at this point like to remind you that any brushes that you do make are to originate from your own creative efforts and not from images found on the Internet or scanned in from your fav magazine or comic.

Tutorials/Walkthrough’s

There are several ways we can present our tutorials and walkthrough’s. Again you can have a preview image where the tutorial itself is made available via the download button, or a full view displayed. If find that you have several "pages" or you are submitting many rough reference images you can pack these up into a tidy packs as well. But the main ingredient is to be as clear and explanatory as possible. Don’t forget for many members it may be the first time they have tried the techniques you are describing.

" Tutors Tutorials "

For those that provide tutorials for Traditional genres and Artisan crafts you may find it is hard to get the best out of your presentation, due to bad lighting , lack of studio facilities or photographic know how.

Below are just a few tutorials that can be found in the gallery that will help you get the best possibly results with limited resources.

Extras.

A few more tips you can find here [link] that have been made available by ^Myana

Naming your files.

We have all seen and heard the usual “I can’t remember where I got it from or there was no name on it ” so it can be useful to add your account name to your Resources. That way whoever uses them will always have a permanent record of who and which account they were downloaded from.

Sadly Resources are at the peril of art theft, with our resources on full view it is very tempting to download and either re-submit to another site, alter for re-distribution as resources here at dA or off site or use said resources without being given credit. Apart from adding extra information by right clinking properties and filling in the blanks with your info you can if you are a Photoshop user add EXIF Data to your file to add your copyright details to images together with your name and account details etc. ok it will not stop people from stealing your images but will certainly help identify them in many cases.

Categories

It is important to read and learn your category descriptions properly and place your resources in the right category and sub section, that way your Resources will actually receive the exposure they deserve, whilst at the same time they will be easily found by our members.
Of course if you are ever unsure as where to place them you are always welcome to contact any of team.

Keywords

Finally you are in the process of submitting your fabulous Resources and you are eager for the community to be able to find them. Keywords are the "key", by simply providing descriptive words about your submission you will aid members to find your works via the Search function.

As always, please respect the guidelines and terms of use laid out by each Resource provider for any Resources that you use.

This is another well written article. :thanks:

In regards to naming the files, that is what i have always done yet it doesn't help a lot of the laziest of bottoms on DA.

Because before I started making stock I found it so annoying to download a file from a stockist, mind you downloading a few at once, and then open them to discover just a number no stockist name no stock image name, that was infuriating.

So now I name every image, and am sure to include the name, pack number, individual image number etc, include my stock name. Name the zip and folder the same.

Apart from that, I'm making my stock account much more structured right now. Because of the way the Unrestricted Stock rules caused people to use and abuse.
Sorry, I'm such a grumpy bum.
