There are cheaper setups if you shop around. The idea is kinda nice but it's more of a gimmic and it really isn't necessary.

The pencil test machine looks cool, But I don't see any real reason for paying that much for a lightbox that doesn't even swivel like a regular animation disc. I have a 7x11" light box worth $70 and my own pegbar worth $6, and it works just fine. It's not perfect, but it works.

it looks cool, but it's really pricey. might be good for schools to buy in bulk cuz they could get a discount. but for a regular person it's not really worth it. the only reason i'd get it is cuz i could import my pencil tests into photoshop or illustrator and do all the ink and paint there. but it's easier to just draw into a program like toon boom studio.

I do a quite a bit of traveling, so i would consider this for when I want to visit my boyfriend two states away and work while he's gone. I would sometimes bring my Disc and large light box which I'd have to wrap up in a couple towels and hope the guys throwing it into the bus doesn't shatter the glass x.x; but that's only if I HAVE TO and I have a lot of work. So even though it's pricey, if you travel a bit (and god forbid you want to work in the school library because the studio can only hold so many kids) i think it would be ideal. But I agree, it's too pricy. My Tablet PC starts at $1500 (I got it for $1998), my cam stand (with 45degree lights) $30 and my awesome camcorder bout $200. ($15 for the ilink/ilink cable i think) and my standing light box about $70. Minus the laptop, that's $315. I'm guessing these people are not from the US to be asking such prices.

So, with that I say, if you have to get it just get the 12 field TYOS. The other ones aren't worth it unless you work on 10 field.

I wish I knew about this before my last year in school and cheaper lol... I totally think this would be good for the animator on the go like myself lol

Now if only i can find a scanner feeder that takes animation paper.
