^LadyLincoln's Workshop: The Lady and the Rogue

*Writers-Workshop:iconWriters-Workshop: reports, July 14
In this news article

Results of `PinkyMcCoversong's Workshop on Enjambment | :star: ^LadyLincoln's Workshop: THE LADY AND THE ROGUE :star: | Apply to be a staff member | First time you've heard of *Writers-Workshop? This section is for you.

:postit: Results of `PinkyMcCoversong's Workshop: Break a line!

*Writers-Workshop: It was good to see so much participation in the workshop. `PinkyMcCoversong's results are brief, as she got caught up in a lot of work. But she plans to come back and offer you guys some in depth critique.

:star: Special Mention: ~dreamscape-painter for this critique: [link]

`PinkyMcCoversong: I truly loved *GaioumonBatou's piece. This is the kind of enjambment that is striking - little unpredictable breaks that emphasize the statement being made, give pause, but aren't an awkward poke in the side or halt the forward motion of the piece.

I also rather enjoyed I Have to Tell You That by =MagicalPyroDragon, in its Williams-esque simplicity. What Williams did was take an every day, observational sentence and craft it into a poem using enjambment, and this piece is a fine nod at his process.

:postit: ^LadyLincoln's Workshop

^LadyLincoln is deviantART's newest Literature Gallery Director, but she has already settled into her work here: her focus area is literature chatrooms and clubs. She's also our resident romance writing expert, which is why we're very excited to present her workshop to you. Take a look at her free-for-all challenge:

:star: THE LADY AND THE ROGUE :star:

Most romance writers will tell you that you cannot always have a well told story or poem that does not include that beautifully woven aspect of “forbidden romance” that draws together your two principal characters. Part of that mystique for us is the beauty of how that foremost relationship begins, how passionate that love becomes – and whether or not our characters will be forever united.

Your primary task for this workshop will be to write a truly romantic piece, in the most traditional sense, centering on our two main characters, and in bringing their romantic relationship to life. There is also no word limit for your prose, as I am a firm believer in allowing the words to flow freely until one’s work feels entirely “complete.” Should you choose to write a poem, feel free to use any “inspirational” references at your disposal to do so, but make sure you focus on the ever-important love that these two individuals share. I hope that for those of you who may not feel comfortable with romantic themed writing that this workshop will certainly give you a chance to delve into something new.

Remember

This workshop is for both prose and poetry. Please do not submit more than one entry.

How to submit

Submit your entry as a new deviation or scrap and send us a link to it in a note. The subject line of the note should be "LADY AND ROGUE". Entries must come in on or before midnight (GMT/UTC), July 23. ^LadyLincoln will respond to the entries on July 27.

:postit: How to accept critique

:bulletblue: Always thank the critic. This gratitude must be as sincere as possible, even if you did not like the critique given, because the critic has taken time to offer his/her opinion of the piece.
:bulletblue: If you do not like the critique, it is not necessary to mention so. Simply thank the critic and move on. You can always ignore their suggestions, while not making a scene of it.
:bulletblue: If you are unsure of what the critique means, feel free to ask the critic what s/he meant. Building rapport with your critic is one of the best ways to survive in a workshop and to learn. If you want examples, ask. Similarly, if you like the suggestions given, mention it. Critic's have feelings too. :)
:bulletblue: In the unlikely case that a critic offers rude/sexist/racist/etc comments, feel free to contact *Writers-Workshop in a note and we will try to help you. A decision regarding the rudeness of the critique will be taken, and if we're not sure ourselves, we will consult with one of the GDs or anyone else high up on deviantART.

:postit: Apply to be a staff member

As ^lovetodeviate will be leaving her position as admin at *Writers-Workshop, there are a couple of spots open for new staff members. Details below.

`Beccalicious's requirements for new staff

To replace Aditi, I am looking for not just one person, but two people to come on board the workshop team. These two people will be working very closely alongside me in the day to day running of writers-workshop. I am looking for people who can be committed and dedicated to this group. The people who apply need to have some experience having participated in several workshops as well as being confident in their ability to critique. As they will have access to the writers-workshop account, they must also be able to prove they can act in a calm and mature manner, especially when it comes to difficult situations.

If you are interested in applying for these positions, please send a note to *Writers-Workshop with the following information:

- Name (username and a first name)
- Age
- Why do you want to apply for this position?
- Do you have any relevant skills or experience you would like to share?
- What do you think you could bring to *Writers-Workshop?
- Two examples of your critique
- Any other relevant information you feel is significant?

Please also remember that if you do apply and suceed, you will have to work with me `Beccalicious, therefore if you dislike me, I don’t recommend applying! :p

:postit: First time you've heard of *Writers-Workshop? This section is for you.

*Writers-Workshop is a literature community that focuses on the development of a writer. We intend to provide a non-competitive workshop environment on dA, as well as to push good, polished writing over winning prizes or "networking".

Workshops will be conducted every fortnight; prose, poetry and free-for-all sessions will be rotated. For more information, read our FAQ section or note us with queries.

:bulletblue: We have been working on a list of resources for our writers: Resources for Writers which we think is worth going through. We are open to suggestions as well.

:bulletblue: Our Diary has a list of upcoming workshops.

:bulletblue: You can host a workshop, too.

:bulletblue: Look out for cycle 7, filled with some cool new workshops!

2) I think you may actually have me going prose in this workshop. We'll see how that goes. ;)

Awesome; my kind of style! :P I think I'll try this!

But I have two question; does it have to be all in one chapter, or can we span it out? And can we submit it for the Fanfiction gallery? (Has an idea for a fanfic... but I can think of something original if you want me to!)

More than one chapter would be a lot to read for the host, I think. Anyway, I'll note her your questions and find out.

Ah, okay. I was planning to make the chapters short.

Also, sometimes it's hard to get all the writeups and responses in time.

Questions: Does it have to be about 'a lady' and 'a rogue' or can it be society or some other force that makes the relationship between two normal people in a relationship difficult. Also, does unrequited love fit into the 'forbidden romance' category?

I only made that comment because Becca said two days ago when I begged for the next topic, "You'll see tomorrow." It doesn't matter to me at all though. ^^ This will be fun.
