Best of... weekly photomanip features #137

*Iardacil:iconIardacil: reports, 1d 11h ago
This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same.
We choose photomanipulations that have made an impression on us from the past week. We do not base our choices on preference or friendships and we have never featured ourselves. We simply pick photomanipulations showing creativity, technique and quality at the same time, and are simply eye-catching. As we are also stock artists, we will only feature the works that give proper credits to stock artists.

=FrozenStarRo:iconFrozenStarRo: reports, December 6
This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between ~Lareth and =FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends *Iardacil and =Sylwiaa , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter.

The Digital Community's Choice, Feature #3

`cosmosue:iconcosmosue: reports, July 15, 2008
Inspired by a series of "Community Choice" articles and the Artist Relations Mantra - "Bringing Unity to the Community", many of the Gallery Directors have decided to reach out to the community and ask them to help choose artworks to be featured.

...but theres a catch! You've got to give me a small write up on the work you note me with. Basically, you choose 1 or more (no more than 5) digital works, write me a note, tell me why you like each one, and thats it! When I get a good amount for an article I will write it all up! Just be sure to put "Community Choice" or something similar in the subject of the note.

I take suggestions from anyone, so as long as its digital and you send me a small write up, you're in!

...and now for the artworks!

Artwork chosen by ~Rhyagelle:

"This is one of my favourite fav pieces as the girl, in my opinion, is directly looking inward, into herself, and who she is or has been formed to be due to all the events in her life. The warm colors, use of textures and composition truly gives you something to look at and think about!"

Artwork chosen by *Annushkka:

"This is the artist first try at the software he used. I am stunned at the skill he shows with texture and brightness, and the amount of small detail that give a sense of realism to the piece. This piece makes such a statement on how we are fed information through the media and become blind and speechless to have our own opinions or to express them."

"This this cute piece brings warmth to my heart. The texture and delicate care on making this is worth noting. There is such a nice expression on the dragon's eyes, that shows a strong emotion and serves as a focal pointer to the fairy, which otherwise would be missed."

"This piece has a strong composition and choice of colors. Again the detail in the skin and hair shows skill and patience from the artist. The addition of kanji text brings balance and meaning to the overall piece. Sensual but classy!"

Artwork chosen by =WraithTen:

"This is one of my favorite images on here, it reminds me of a movie poster. Those eyes just draw you in and make you want to see more. But what I also love is how the artist gives you a sliver of a story with the picture. This is a portrait of one of his own characters, Stephen Garrity, who just so happens to be a serial killer. As I get drawn into the picture and look into this man's eyes I am also reminded about how sometimes the most horrific things are found inside attractive packages."

Artworks chosen by *hypnotises:

"As a fan of Dali I can tell that this one is very good version of the 'skull'. Its very smart, creative and it has a neat darkness... "

"Every time I look at this work it makes me feel like losing gravity, its quite haunting, creepy, lovely, and dramatic at same time its one of my all time favourites..."

"This is the one of most creative works that I've ever seen here. Perfectly detailed, it has many hidden figures and smaller details, as long as I watch this work I see different feelings and meanings inside..."

"This is a very talented artist, and this work is just one of the amazing pieces from his amazing gallery. His style makes you feel that you are living in another world, right phrase "He is creating worlds."

"This this is such a unique work with a non-classic figure and it's neat movement, beautiful colors, beautiful concept, it confuses me, is he/she trying to reach something? Looking after someone? Blaming something? It is so full of melancholy, great art..."

Artwork chosen by *AleriaCarventus:

"It's not often you find really well done animal art combined with human art, but this poster really pulls it off! Both the horse and the cat are very well done, and Hunter (the guy in the picture) looks very drool-worthy. Also, the amount of detail put into this - from shaded silver buttons to individually drawn shingles and bricks, there isn't much to not like about it!"

"Hope is the denial of reality. It is the carrot dangled before the draft horse to keep him plodding along in a vain attempt to reach it."
'Are you saying we shouldn't hope?'
"I'm saying we should remove the carrot and walk forward with our eyes open"

Very nice choices. I like the idea of having the community get involved in this way. Thanks for giving us this opportunity.
