DeviantART users who browse sites such as the *chans and Newgrounds should be wary. Recently, links that link to the website of a game called "4chan Fandango" have been distributed on those sites. But all is not as it seems. The program that can be downloaded from that site is actually a piece of malware that, once it is run to install the "game", instead installs a virus called the "Star Syndicate virus" on your computer.

The virus's symptoms include:

-Blocked access to Control Panel and display settings
-Disabling right-click function
-Disabling System Restore
-Filling the desktop with copies of a file called "STARSYNDICATE85.swf"
-Playing a video and music with the text "Star Syndicate" in the background.
-Redirecting your browser to the NAACP website when it is opened.
-Possible keylogger installation

If your computer has been infected, the following steps may help:

1)Run a scan with your preferred antivirus application.
2)Install and run Combofix
2)Make sure hidden files and system files are unhidden
3)Search for and delete Star.ico, hacked.swf, and .vbe files including close.vbe.
4)Search for and delete all files created or edited after the date when the virus installer was run. Particularly files with "4chan" or "starsyndicate" in their names
5)Delete everything in the Startup folder of the Start menu that you don't recognize.
6)Delete all prefetch files.

This should help get rid of the virus without having to take drastic measures.
