Stock to art with images from the nude sub category.
Yes, nude, there will be bums and boobs so look away if offended!
The Guidelines:
- First Timer? - Read the Rules!
You have to know carefully the guidelines of this site, so that you won't be banned or similar. There you can also find all the information on avatars, icons, emoticons, moods, links, html, css, journals, subscription, polls, prints, etc This way you won't need to bother other deviants with basic questions (I don't mind answering some though).- First Time? - DO NOT BOTHER.
Do not bother "famous" people, usually they will not reply because they have 18843 things to do, and replying to some random deviant's comment is most probably the least of their problems. Yes there are some exceptions, but don't cry if your favorite "famous" artist doesn't reply/doesn't want to teach you how to draw.- First Impression - Grammar & Expressions & Politeness:
I must admit that when you talk to someone for the first time, I believe that making your words mature and grammatically correct helps. I think most people would prefer conversing with a 14 year old who expresses herself correctly, is polite, and uses proper grammar (maybe a few errors) compared to a 21 year old man who only uses Chatspeak (chatspeak means things like: "0MG, my bff j!ll!!!1") and "badmouths" ones and others, unless the man is with a friend/joking around.- First Impression - Icon & Signature:
Yes, this might not be exactly a good thing, but people do look at your icon/signature to judge you. People don't necisseraly want to talk to someone whose avatar is the default one which 128236 people use. Be creative with your avatar, it does not matter what program you have. When it comes to the signature, either be: funny or intelligent (or both). Don't limit yourself to three dots!- More than one language?
Sorry people, DeviantArt is principally an English-speaking community, yes there are sub communities that talk French (so do I), Spanish, German, etc. But most people speak English, so having the capability to either write your journals, comments, or descriptions in more than one language is always a plus.- Favorites, They Exist:
everything you like! Don't do it to try to be famous, just do it cause you like the deviation.
- Comments - Constructive Criticism
When you comment on a deviation things like "Oh my this is so kawaii!" or "This sucks balls!" don't help at all. Explaining why it is bad/good always helps the artist become better. Helping artists with criticism = appreciation from the artist (usually). However, don't be too pessimist, if the deviation is bad, and still want to express yourself, try to at least point out the good parts.- Comments - Where to Comment?!
Comment on everything you want, usually on forums, news (I advise you to comment on this!), deviations, journals, etc.- Brainwashing - Greet Them!
Welcome warmly new deviants (if you feel like it), that you find on the "Today" page. I think they will be glad of this and you might just find your next good friend and/or DeviantArt's Next Top Graphics Designer/Poet/Etc.!- Be Nifty With Your Words.
Being smart with words is always a good thing, for example I played on the word "Summarizing" by dividing it into to words (Summer and Rising) that, when said one after the other, sounds like Summarizing.- Go read some, Tutorials.
No matter what, tutorials help you. Don't worry, if you are looking for something like creating your own hair for your photo manipulation and can't find anything, just look at the thing closest to it, which in this case would be vexeling hair.- Contests & Their Many Rewards
Enter in all of the contests you can handle. When you win, your reputation boosts + you get prizes (as features/subscriptions). If you loose, you still are promoted since you were indirectly featured because you were in the list of entries!- Browsing
Always browse in different categories, even ones you are not interested, you might just find something new, inspiring, or just plain amazing.- Art Trades & Collaborations
Go ahead and do art trades with friends or collaborations, this helps because usually both people post the image and say that it was a collaboration and gives a link to the other artist. Therefore you and your friend are promoted two times with one submission. Coloring line arts help also!- Joining Clubs:
Join clubs to promote yourself. However, make sure these clubs are the clubs that you actually want to join, for example I joined the *GreenArt-Club because I wanted to promote the idea of Thinking Green.- Watching People:
Watch the people you think are cool, nice, great, etc. They usually watch you back! Don't just watch random people you don't think anything about though, that will be plain useless.- Thanking the Favs & Watches:
Always thank the people who have faved your work/watched you. This shows your appreciation and how you care. Thank them individually on their page. Well, until it gets to hard to handle with all of the other 100s of favs you might get- Subscriptions - A major Boost?!
This might be prejudice on DeviantArt, but people come to usually think that people with subscriptions are either amazing or must be good (which isn't always the case). So if you get a Subscription, this might be quite a boost.- Volunteering in Projects:
If you volunteer in a project that you think is good and that your are motivated about, then usually after you help them a lot, they will talk about you.- Scraps Exist!
Organize your gallery, only put what is good in the featured section (I will be doing this soon enough). If you have a snapshot of your friends and you, and it is not artistic, put it in the scraps! DeviantArt Isn't Facebook2 or MySpace2.- Your Page - Webcam, Desktop, Fav Work:
Your page has a webcam and more you know! So make your page pretty by adding a very nice webcam image, show your fans what your desktop looks like while being creative, promote one of your own favorite pieces in your Featured Deviation. A journal can also be pretty without a subscription, just be creative with your given css (the basics like "i" & etc.).- Update with Moar!
Update your gallery with the things you've made that you think deserves to be submitted, do it often! Do the same with your journal. However don't submit so much that it spams your Watchers' Message Boxes.- Brainwashing - HAPPY BIRTHDAY & Such
If it's your friend's/watcher's birthday say happy birthday, if he/she's sick say that you hope he/she will get better soon. These types of things make the artists appreciate you!- Write Some News:
Writing news always helps you get some kind of popularity boost, whether it's in the resources (like my series "Think Green" Stock) or somewhere else, there's bound to be some people who will love it. However, your article needs to be interesting and do not post it multiple times, one time is enough!- Features:
Being featured does make your reputation go up, consequently featuring people does also. If you tell them people that you featured them in a news article, usually they will fav the article. If the article gets Front Page, then people will read it, and maybe fav it also. If people really like the article/are curious, they might just look at your gallery!- Be Evil - Trick People into Looking:
Be evil, trick people into going to your page, for example make I would make a small link like this one: Click here!; and say that it's a link to the new resource article of the week.- Being Sly - "Subconscious Peer Pressure":
If you are good at doing "subconscious peer pressure" then this will be easy. If you are good at acting it will be also. Usually people sometimes go on and say the following: "I suck! Don't you think? Here I'll show you (link here) ISN'T IT UGLY?!" to then be replied that it isn't. That is what I call "subconscious peer pressure". There are many things like that, tricks that can do this. However, I am only giving the one used most of the time.- Subscriptions... For Others?!
This might be hard to do, but giving a famous person a subscription for free will do one thing: get yourself thanked by that famous person (and sometimes thanked through a journal entry). However, I don't exactly advise this, since you are using your own money just to buy someone a subscription to have a 50% chance of getting a popularity boost.- Commissions!
If you are a great artist, commissions should be good. Usually commissions are in the drawing/painting section of DeviantArt (some exceptions). So doing commissions gives quite a popularity boost if you get one from a certain somewhat-popular person!- DeviantArt Chat
The Chat section is great to promote yourself in by joining a community like ThumbShare or etc. But it needs to be a community you want to be in!- Polite - Saying Hi & Goodbye...
Yes sometimes to be polite you need to say goodbye, cya, or etc. This is often in the chat section of DeviantArt. It is polite to say Hi, and at the end Goodbye.
So now I'd like to thank you, the reader, to have read this, I hope you support this article to help other new Deviants and Deviants who want to be famous. If you'd like to continue to support this and would like me to make it a series please go here. Please comment and tell me what you think!
Best Regards,
