Food For Thought Series Three

~EzzyGezzy:iconEzzyGezzy: reports, August 1, 2008
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." I couldn't agree more. And be sure to have fun while you're at it!~James Dean

Omg so we have been through two series thus far with starting with the interview of ~Azeroth-Fallen and =krazykel:wow: In this friday's alphabet soup I interviewed :iconshadowed-light-waves:=shadowed-light-waves

=EzzyGezzy How long have you been on deviantART?

=shadowed-light-waves Technically since late 2006, but I don't consider that when I first joined. I mark my first day on deviantART by the first day I decided to visit dAmn. =D That was on "deviant Appreciation Day". June 21st, 2007.

=EzzyGezzy Interesting. I would say when I first looked at deviantART myself, it was back in 2004. Officially for me, it was late 2006 too when I was starting college. :D What was deviant Appreciation Day all about?

<shadowed-light-waves> Lol, Deviant Appreciation Day was a chaotic example of this site's randomness. The devART admins went around from chatroom to chatroom giving prizes out, for no other reason other than to say, "Thank you for being a part of deviantART". It was awesome. I've been coming to the deviantART chatrooms ever since! :w00t:

I even got my first devART subscription during that time. Well, sort of... it was a couple days afterward. Given to me completely out of the blue by one of the Gallery Directors: ^KevLewis. The gesture was so nice, that I've tried to pay it forward. Every now and again, I'll do the same for another random deviant. I'll talk to them for a bit in a chatroom somewhere, then buy them a subscription for no reason whatsoever. It helps spread the love around. ;p

Lol, I should mention that I've encountered the good nature of the people on this site constantly ever since that day. Though I've bought a bunch of subscriptions for other people, I've never actually bought one for myself. And I've been subscribed everyday since that summer day in June, and well into the future. :slow:

=EzzyGezzy Wow thats a lot of subscriptions I bet. Did you start out as a photographer or what was the first painting you ever did to show the deviants here?

=shadowed-light-waves How did I start out....? I've been an art appreciator since the first time I vandalized a wall with a crayon, I'd imagine. And I'm definitely guilty of scribbling in the margins of papers. So it's hard to say when I first started. I like to try anything and everything!

But on deviantART...? To be honest, the first thing I ever did was upload a random Photograph --- and I only uploaded it because the person who convinced me to join this site (~Aoringo. Lol, I got my devAccount on her birthday. xD) said I needed something in my gallery. It was a random photograph, and not a very good one. But! Because I carry a camera around with me wherever I go, it seemed like the easiest thing to submit.

=EzzyGezzy So then what was the image of?

=shadowed-light-waves Lol, just a tree. From someone's backyard. In an alleyway in Japan. It looked weird, and I'd never seen a tree like that before, so I took a picture of it. 8D
:slow:

=EzzyGezzy Would you have a fascination shadowed-light-waves to the Japanese culture? Or any in particular?

=shadowed-light-waves Yep! I do. I've studied the language a bit, and I got to live there for a little while. Not very long, but long enough to decide I loved it. =D

=EzzyGezzy What ethnicity may I ask are you? Even though you are into the Japanese culture, I am a bit curious.

=shadowed-light-waves Lol, I'm "a small world after all." ;p I'm not sure if I can list every one of them, but the main ones would be... hmm... Pacific Islander, German, Chinese, Native American, Polish, Irish, Russian, the list goes on...

=EzzyGezzy lol so a mut most likely eh? But not in a bad way, which is why I am even mentioning it. 'Cause I am the same way too just not as much. For me its Iranian mainly, German, Saudi Arabian, Mongolian and Switz *cheers*

=shadowed-light-waves Lol :lmao: Yep! I'm like a soup someone makes as they attempt to clean out the refrigerator. :ahoy:

=EzzyGezzy Haha we both have a bit of German though xD Yays for ethnicities! It's so cool to find out the backgrounds of friends.

=shadowed-light-waves I agree! Whoo hoo for Ethnicities! :w00t:

=EzzyGezzyMoving on from culture being the last thing we discussed. Tell me about your favorite books? It seems you are very fascinated by Stephanie Meyer's "Twilight" series. Why so fascinated?

=shadowed-light-wavesThat's a tough one! My favorite books are the ones that keep me amused from beginning to end -- or the ones that provide insight into different places. For example, I love Russian Comedy writers, or Contemporary Chinese texts. Classic Roman & Greek plays as well.

The "Twilight" series found me by complete chance. It was a book recommendation from an absolute stranger I was sitting next to one day, and I have neither seen nor heard from this person since. We live on opposite sides of the country, and I don't even know her name -- but if I ever figure that out, I'll have to thank her. =D

<devezzygezzy>So you didn't know this person at all and suddenly she came out of the blue? :eyes: I wonder if it was a calling or something. lols Anyways Classical Roman and Greek plays? Which one is your most favorite out of all of them?

=shadowed-light-wavesLOL! Nope! Didn't know her at all. But some of my best adventures were taken on a whim! So why not do the same for a book?

And as far as Classic Roman & Greek works go... I really like Aeschylus' "Agamemnon" and Euripides' "Medea" --- but my favorite has always been Sophocles' "Oedipus Rex". Lol, I know it's a well known and overdone story -- but I like it because it's about the future, and what happens when you try to mess around with something like that. I just found the entire play intriguing, in a morbid, fatalistic way.

=EzzyGezzyTo be honest I haven't heard of them much myself. ^^; But wow you learn something new each day. Do any of those Titles have meanings to them?

=shadowed-light-wavesMost of them are names. The authors liked to create heroes, then destroy them. That way, they'd be remembered forever as the person that fell from glory due to their personality traits and flaws.

=EzzyGezzyLike Ekilies(sp?) heal? Interesting I may look into those stories. Which one would you say to first timer into Roman books would be good?

=shadowed-light-wavesLol, yep! Achilles' story is a great example. And if I had to recommend one, I'm too biased to say anything other than Oedipus Rex. =D Try that one! The Odyssey is pretty good too (plus there are movies made about it all the time ;p). And "Antigone". That one's a sad one, but it takes place after Oedipus Rex.

=EzzyGezzyHonestly I can already say I have read "The Odyssey" and its a good book. Back to dA now what sorts of stuff do you like to do on deviantART?

=shadowed-light-wavesAside from idling in a bunch of dAmn chatrooms, I'm part of the =DailyDeviants team, which features the artwork of unknown artists each day. Check it out sometime! Additionally, I spend a lot of time suggesting Daily Deviations (I keep a Collection of them here), keeping up with ^projecteducate and Artist Relations events, randomly holding contests in chatrooms, and browsing through every type of gallery. I try to dabble in a little bit of everything.

Oh! And stamps. I love making stamps.

=EzzyGezzy Any closing statements now?
=shadowed-light-wavesThank you so much for the opportunity to be interviewed! This article series of yours is very cool. =D Hah, even though *some* of us have proven to be rather difficult to get a hold of...
:paranoid: *cough* :innocent:

=EzzyGezzy*GaioumonBatou:icongaioumonbatou: *cough cough* Who is up next for our fourth week of Food for Thought:innocent:

=shadowed-light-wavesLOL!! I meant me... But sure! I'll let him take the fall for that!
:#1:

 Well thank you Shadowed-light-waves for letting me have the pleasure of interviewing you. :handshake:
