reports, August 1, 2008Two hundred-some features later, I can tell you that finding themes that aren't commonly used in our news articles is still pretty easy, and "Airsoft & Paintball" is one of those.
Airsoft is a game, based around combat, which has similarities with paintball. In most scenarios, participants aim to eliminate opponents by hitting them with 6mm (or occasionally 8mm) plastic BBs launched from airsoft guns. Airsoft guns are most commonly powered by one of three sources: Gas (CO2, Green Gas (aka Propane) Red Gas, 134A, or some other type of gas), spring-loaded (air is forced through a nozzle via a manually cocked spring piston, normally called "spring guns" or "springers"[1]), or gearboxes (mechanical boxes that use motors to pull back and release a spring piston named AEGs or Automatic Electric Guns)[2]. Participants typically use varying types of weapons designed as replicas of real firearms, tactical gear, and accessories used by military and police organizations. Airsoft has been popular in Asia for a long time and there is now a growing interest in airsoft weapons and events in North America and Europe. Some of the notable manufacturers of airsoft guns include Tokyo Marui, Classic Army, and ICS to name a few. (Source: Wikipedia, [link] )
Paintball is a sport[1] in which players eliminate opponents from play by hitting them with paint filled, breakable, gelatin paintballs usually shot from a carbon dioxide or compressed air powered "paintball marker".
Paintball draws a wide array of people, and the Sporting Goods Manufacturer's Association estimates that over 10 million people play the game in the United States annually, with 1.9 million playing at least 15 times a year.[2][3][4] Insurance statistics show that paintball is one of the safest sports, with fewer injuries per exposure than sports like football,soccer, basketball, and baseball.[5]
Games can be also played either indoors or outdoors and take various forms, of which some of the most popular are woodsball, scenario, X-Ball and speedball. Rules for playing paintball vary widely, with most designed to ensure that participants enjoy the sport in a safe environment. The sport requires a significant amount of equipment.
A game of paintball usually involves two opposing teams seeking to eliminate all of the other team's players or to complete some other objective, such as retrieving a flag, eliminating a specific player, or other paintball variations.
