Producing comic is a very tiring and difficult job. It taxes both physical endurance and brainpower.Readers look at drawing skill and style of story. Good drawings and superior techniques does not guarantee success. Shallow storyline causes readers to be lost. After a while, it is akin to viewing an art exhibition. Even when the storyline is excellent, the readers would rather rent the book other than buying if the drawings did not meet the expectations. Many new artists are like meteorites, they flash by too quickly. It is said that there are more than 200000 aspiring comic artists in Japan but only 100 fulfill their dream. Those who aren't good cenough will settle for position of an assistent.
Comic drawing is no longer a simple individual affair. It involves the combined effort in drawing, scripting, page layout and story development.
Do you want to be a professional comic artist? Before you step blindly and fall on your face, look around and see how muvh you understand about the profession.
If you are 25 and do not know how to use a brush or 30 and have noe joined the industry, try again in your next life.

1)CHARACTER DESIGN
For most artists, it is best to create characters as an extension of the artist's own personality. To creat more realistic personalities, look up novels and movies for inspiration.
Usually for designing a character, there are several areas to take into account:
1. personality design
Here are a few examples of several prominent characters:
>gentle and mild type-one who is mediocre in doing everything. But he/she tends to be the sweetheart of everyone.

>model student type who excel in studies- always wearing glasse. he/she is very compatitive and gets jealous very easily. Physically this character tends to be constantly ill.

>young and naive type-He/she is a willful crybaby, tending to indulge oneself in fantasies.
references:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
>gangster-like type-because of bad upbringing, the character apears to be rebelious towards the school and organisations but he/she is actually affable in nature. He/she enjoys taking risks and would stand up to help the weak.
references:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
>shy type-mystery surrounds his/her family backgrounds. He/she is reserved apears to be mysterious and lonely.
references:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
>sporty and optimistic type-Chairman of the sports club, gregarious and outgoing in nature, will definitely choose sports over studying.
references:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
>sexy and mature type-he/she is fashionable and sexy, but also very tolerant, a character that people love to confide their troubles to.

2. character's facial expressions:
With different characters, their range of facial expressions tends to vary too. There are 5 main expressions: normal, happy, angry, sad and shocked. with varying personalities, additional expressions such as troubled, unsatisfied, arrogant, shy etc can be added. the crucial part in sketching out the different expressions lies in differing the eyebrow, eyes and lips.
3. scenarios
different mock up scenerios would be set up to better explore the character:
>model student type who excel in studies- He/she will always be seen carrieing a name list and standing at the entrance of the school every morning, recording down the names of latecomers. At other times, he/she is seen rushing everywhere, helping and overseeing different events and carnivals, or even carrying stacks of books inside the library. Sometimes, he/she can be seen sitting thoughtfully on the swings of a playground on the way from school to their houses.
>young and naive type-clumsy and always crashing into something, with his/her belongings scattering everywhere. Always greeting others with exaggerated movements such as spreading his/her arms and jumping.
>gangster-like type-caqn always be seen riding on a motorcycle and roaming around at night. He/she is also the lead heavy metal singer inside a pub.
>sexy and mature type-because of him/her older in age and more mature, he/she is allowed to drink. Rarely, he'she is seen to be drunk, teroubled by relationships and his/her carrer.
2)STYLES
Most of the artists started out by tracing other artists's work, but in the end, it is really important to come out with your own drawing style. One good way is through combining the good points of the different art styles you like and practice more to get comfortable with it. Here are several distince categories of art.
