I am sure the majority of people are aware that the Olympics are currently taking place in Beijing. However, I thought it might be a nice idea to get all our emotes off their couches and stretch their arms and take part in their very own Olympics right here on DeviantART.
From the idea,
The Emote Olympics 2008 was launched.
The Emote Olympics is a community based project. Deviants from all over the site can create entries and submit them to be added to project board. As with any emoticon project are guidelines to help the project run smoothly, but a lot is left up for your imagination.
The current project board with all current entries can be found here:

And below are a few basic guidelines and FAQs for this project:
Who can enter? The great thing about emoticons is anyone can create them. Both experienced and brand new emoticonists are welcome in this project. Even if you haven't ever tried making an emote before, give it a go. Projects such as this are a great starting place.
What size entries are you accepting? For easy i have created the project board in 50x50 pixel blocks. Therefore the minimum entry size is 50x50 pixels. However, if you would like to have a larger canvas size, you can increase it to cover multiple blocks (within reason). Therefore canvas sizes such as 100x50 and 100x100 are acceptable
Are you accepting animated entries? As much as I would love to accept animated entries, this time round i am not. The emotes must be static (non-moving)
Do the entries have to have a background? For the purpose of this project, all entries will be placed on a background. However, you can either create your own or used the template background

i have created. I will also accept entries which have a transparent background, and i will place these onto my template.
How exactly do I enter? After creating your emote, submit it to your gallery or scraps and
NOTE me with a link to your entry. I will then add it to the board and leave a link in the artist comments to your individual deviation
How many entries are you accepting? The size of the current project board can be increased to hold as many entries as i receive. I am also more than happy to allow people to enter more than once.
Do the sports have to be official Olympic sports? No. The sports can be anything your imagination creates. They can be official sports, winter sports, sports with a twist, or a completely new event created especially for this Olympics
I am new to creating emotes. Do you have a link to some tutorials?Certainly. There is a selection of good tutorials linked at the bottom of this journal -
[link] and i have a set of emote bases that can be found here -
[link] for deviants that are unsure on shading an emote themselves
I have another question, whats the best way to contact you?Just drop me a note and I will be more than happy to answer. I will also be updating the FAQ in the artist comments of the project board, so its best to double check there before sending me a note
So have fun. Let your imagination go wild and see what amazing entries you can come up with
