Thanks to all the judges who have helped me judging... I'll read your notes so many times to make sure I'll choose only those who deserve to win most! FAQ for the GROUP I - non photography entries: (there are 200 and more entries that didn't make it this far so I'm sure some of the participants will have some questions for me, guess I'd better prepared before someone tries to torch my butt. )

1.) Why do I see such a 5 minute done - entry above in the top 50?

They have unique concepts. I believe I've said many times that concept will give the biggest points in this contest. Technique and effort come second. Those who think out of the box and don't follow the main stream of classic - cliche symbols have bigger chance to have their seats secured for this nominee spotlight.

They might not win due to some other stronger entries which have a balance total point of concepts, techniques and efforts. Still... I like to appreciate the unique concepts they show us here. Don't underestimate the power of concepts... Irl, folk, one can always borrow the money and have others to do some works, but whether your products will sell like potato chips or not, it will go back to whether the idea/ the concept itself is great or not.


2.) Hey, my entry has the same theme with those who made it into the top 50, but why is mine not there??

Indeed... almost half of the entries of GROUP I - non photography are portraying the classic symbols of angel-demon or mermaid-wingedman concepts. It's very reasonable to play safe... but when there are abundant entries from the same concept, I have to choose those who have better techniques and effort shown in the arts to be their representatives for the top 50 because other great or greater concepts need some places too.



3.) My concept is great, I hardly see others use this theme too and hey, my technique is not bad. I've spent days doing my entry and I wrote a lot of explanation on my artist comment so that you can see my whole points. So why my entry is not up there???

First of all... I must say a great art can speak for itself about the tittle it has.

The artist comment section can be used to give a broader explanation, a background story of your idea, some links to close-up detail shoots or reference images that an artist uses. (well, sometimes I use it to rant some related issues too... )

BUT!

But... an artist shall not relay his biggest bet on his writing skill on the artist comment section.

IMHO it's not the best option to execute a concept for an emotion based contest like this with: A portrait or character design approach.

Don't get me wrong, all of them are beautiful as an art itself, BUT! I think they do not quite fit as an entry for this contest. If my contest theme is sumthing like: "God/Goddess, King Lear, Draw my character, etc.", those kind of approach in executing an art is fine... You can draw a close-up hyper details of the King's face and win the first place. But if an entry for this contest makes me ask myself, where's the forbidden love that should be expressed on the art itself? I have to put them aside no matter how great the technique & the effort shown there ....

A great concept shall be executed well, not just simply written well on the artist comment section. I hope you understand my points. Sorry for being strict...
