I want to give as much oppurtunity as possible

For those in SDL that lead teams, sponsorships and advertising are a must <3 and prize givers are more than welcome, art and subscriptions are the most common of prizes but oh so sweet indeed. We also need 1 or 2 more judges people so offer to join or help out anyway you can! ^_^

could people that are already judges also advertise the tournament if it's not too much trouble? Thank you in advance!

The Story:

Injustice.
The dictionary defines the word as:
–noun
1. the quality or fact of being unjust; inequity.
2. violation of the rights of others; unjust or unfair action or treatment.
3. an unjust or unfair act; wrong

A city was built upon the principles, Core-Up City, under the guise of a happy persona.It's a city its occupants would describe (If they used clean language( 'A place that looks like it travel through time from the 1950's to now'. A cyberpunk city if you will. The edges of the city look like a peaceful subberb but they are empty shells to lure in occupants. The real operation is in the inner city, a cold dog eat dog world. Mobsters and gangsters commiting crimes of all levels from petty theft to first degree murder it's all part of the normal day in this corrupted law town. But this place is not without a shred of hope, for years now there had been a small resistance vigilante group fighting for justice in place of the corrupted law enforcement, but recently someone has been tracking them down and ending them. Soon there will be nothing to put an end to crime's existance.

What was the source of all this corruption you ask? Look up to the west and atop a lonely hill outside and one will gaze upon the illustrious mansion that is the mayor's abode. Ever since the corruption began, he has not made one public appearance and the few big time gang bosses that are invited by him to enter, vary rarely leave alive. The mayor has become a kingpin of pin if you will, governing every crime in the city for his own cut of profit. Anyone who tries to leave the city is more often than not assasinated sooon after to prevent the leak of the city's activities, it's all up to his jurasdiction

But as said, not all hope is lost, the vigilante resistance has one last plan, but to do it they must increase their faction numbers in one final assault upon the mayors abode and restore balance to law and order. For when the kingpin falls, so too does his reighn of tyranny upon the city's people, their corruption wiped clean. And so, they risk assasination and venture out to find help.

They know full well that people will surely want something for this, and they offer them this, the entire town is their prize. Control of the whole city and it's conduct will be their prize for saving Core-Up city. Now they just have to hope they live long enough to find people.

The Process:
Your OC will be approached by a member of the vigilante group (you are free to design said vigilante) they explain the situation going on before their untimely death via assasination in your pressence. Your audition entry will be based upon what you do to the assasin (of which you can either design one yourself to add to creativity or use one of the judges npc's found below(pending)) afterwards and how these events lead you to journy to Core-Up city. In short, your audition entry must go in an order that's something like this:

introduction of your character > meeting the vigilante > death of vigilant after explaining the city's problem > interacting with the assasin > go to Core-up and arrive at the Kingpin's manor.

Do not go any further than that or dipict the mayor as I have something very special in mind to further explain the plot once you get there. All you will know is others will be there too hoping to do the same as you and expect to be fighting them for the prize. This will all be explained in comic format before round 1 starts I assure you.
The matches will be randomized each time, and will go up a day after the judging has been announced.

What we're looking for: Creativity! Originality, an engaging story and an appealing execution of said story. What the story is and how its told takes precedence over art quality of the entry, as it is, in the end, what helps us get to know your character and what propels the story forward. Also displaying a cognitive and deductive mind also helps as this is the main focus of the tournament.

The Rules:

Characters:

1. Fancharacters will be turned away at the door. Nothing from any popular franchise’s universe, unless of course, it is your own franchise. :3 OCs of any kind are allowed.

2. Characters can use familiars, summons, dopplegangers, separate entities, etc. Squads of OC’s squishing into ‘one’ combatant slot are allowed, but each fight must feature one main OC which will be the fighter, and the others may offer only minimal support. The focus should always be on your main combatant.

3. There are no limits as to what abilities your character may have in terms of physical and magical ability. Just be sure to find a good use for your power and talents here

Battles:

1. Battles can be done one-shot portrait style or in comic format. Though there is a trend of comic format entries always doing much better, so just realize from the get-go, that’s the type of thing to get noticed. They are encouraged. This contest should be, after all, about expanding your artistic horizons, and there’s nothing like trying your hand at comics to learn you a thing or two about perspective, composition, pacing.. and of course backgrounds.

2. Comics don’t have to be in color. Of course a masterfully colored/grayscaled entry is going to stand a much better chance than flat pencils, but it’s entirely up to you and what you feel most comfortable with.

3. Battles don’t necessarily have to end in death. Nor are they going to be judged by gore, badassery or cleverness alone. It just needs to be a ‘defeat’. We’re looking for creativity here, an overall high standard in all categories, or whatever makes your art ‘you’. If you err on the side of comedy, be funny. If you like super gore, go for it. (Try to stay decent with accordance of the rules on DA..) The main thing is, bring yourself to the table here, with your own cards laid out, the way you want them. And do it with some pizzazz. XD
Long story short, just show your original character defeating who you are matched up with. And make the judges want to see more.

4. 32 combatants means five rounds. 32 - 16 - 8 - 4 - 2 . You will have a full 3 weeks to submit your entry, in an effort to encourage working at your own pace and giving it your all. However, in the later rounds, extensions are more likely due to school starting and the like.

(Reference materials will go up after the deadline has passed. Many of the introductions have multiple parts, but I have only put up the first page.)

You will have until midnight EST October 20thth to get up reference sheets and an intro comic (single images or flash animations are also allowed :3). On October 30th, the intro to the tournement will be will be posted which will let you know who is in the tournament, October 31st is when the matches will be announced and Round 1 will begin! Sounds complicated but with what is in store for you, it's worth it! Good luck :3
