FAN ART CONTEST for The Deathlings!
I got very burned out doing the whole logo thing last year, I offered to do it free for a few online friends, who told a few of their friends, and so on ... at last count I had completed just over 100 of them in various sizes and I still had 88 more requests before I decided I couldn't spend that much time on signatures, avatars and professional looking logos that companies usually get paid good money for (I was fine with the small logos for online game clans and forum pages, but when people started asking for super large high quality logos for companies it really started to wear on me)
there are a couple things I'd like to know though, just for clarification ...
1. size matters - what size and dimensions do you want these in? ... if you're thinking about maybe using this on your website you need to take monitor sizes and current resolution trends into consideration ... a few years back you could bank on 1024x768 being the vast majority of desktop resolutions that people used unless they were a graphics designer, so you could create logos and images about 1.5x that size and always have them look great, but those days are long gone
now that large LCD's are dirt cheap, people are picking them up like crazy ... I personally use 2560 x 1600 on my monitor, but I would guess that either 1920x1200 or 1680 x 1050 is a more common standard, with fewer people using 2650x1600 and 1440x900 (and of course you still have a lot of 1024x768 people who still have their older monitors and the laptop/tablet PC crowd which still have smaller screens - so you need this logo to be at least large enough/high quality for the website to properly display it on what you consider to be the most popular and most used screen resolution without it looking all scaled down and puné ... unless you are positive that you will limit it's use to a small sized logo
2. got boobs? - do you care if there's obvious nudity in the logo? ... like will it ever be used on your website before the part where you ask if the viewer is 18+ ? ... I wouldn't want to make you one with some βōǿьĭεş in it and end up with you getting in trouble because some 14 year old saw it and complained to his heavily right-winged mom ... nomsay?
3. are you color blind boy?? - do you have any color or lighting preference? ... not that it would be a 'rule' or set in stone, but do you generally prefer darker, lighter, B&B, pastel or bright neon Crayola colors? - any hints from you about this stuff would be better for everyone
4. what the hell kind of extension is this?? - do you want this saved as a JPG, PNG, GIF or a photoshop PSD file with the layers still intact in case you want to mess around with it (the PSD is the way I would want it, but I know that not everybody uses Photoshop)
I wouldn't want any of these things to give anybody an advantage over another, and hopefully you won't be judging them based on any of this, but these questions would really be helpful to know
thanks, I'll let you know as soon as I can shoot something out

And for that name which is no part of thee, take all of myself
1.) Size - The optimum size (in terms of scaling the text etc.) is to look right stamped on a 600 x 900 preview image. However, I'd really love to have higher-resolution files to work from, so I can scale it as appropriate.
2.) I would prefer if the logo weren't explicit. I'd rather imply than show, in a logo that could go on all sorts of my photos. (See 4, bellow.)
3.) I like high-contrast, such as white on a black backdrop. Most of my photos are pretty dark, but a logo should work on the light ones too. (See 4, below.)
4.) Ideally, I'd like the original PSD file, so I can work with the layers. This will let me adapt the logo to suit images with different sizes, colors, brightness, etc. To enter into the contest, just a jpg will do.
