A little bit about Dia de los Muertos...

Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday starting on Oct. 31st when the spirits of passed loved ones come to visit until the 2nd of November when they leave again. People who celebrate this holiday adorn skulls made of sugar with little trinkets, bright colorful flowers and designs to represent the loved one passed. The cemeteries are decorated to welcome the spirits, and graves are used to hold the favorite foods and beverages of the deceased and build little altars upon the grave to honor them. Unlike Halloween, it is not a time to fear the dead, it is a time to communicate with your deceased loved one and to celebrate their brief stay. It is not a time for melancholy thoughts, so bright colors and cheer can be seen throughout the holiday's times-- but it is still closely in comparison to Halloween, decoratively speaking... like a spring time Halloween, in way
but the meaning of the two holidays are completely different from each other.

I noticed that many people who want to participate in my contest are having troubles understanding Dia de los Muertos, and I am receiving many horror & macabre related deviations that I have to sadly turn down. It doesn't mean they are bad works (all of them are very nice ), it just means they do not meet the theme. So here I am going to feature some of the works of fellow deviants which I feel are exactly the style of art in Day of the Dead so that maybe it'll spark some inspiration for those having troubles
