Listen.
We hate art theft. I get it.
But is it REALLY necessary to "make them cry"?
Why do you have to jump on bandwagons and shout "LOL U SUCK GO KILL URSELF" over something that was... not your business?
You don't know what the person is going through irl, art thief or not... everyone has their problems.
I was harassed mercilessly by a cult of idiots (aka bandwagon) when they decided I stole art. They didn't have any artist they claim I stole it from, wanna know why? Because it actually was my art.
Even after pointing this out, that it was themed-Oc-fanart, they refused to stop until I just logged out and never came back to the account.
I was on a different account before, and I loved that name. I stopped loving it after the stress from always signing in and being fucked with made my hobby, browsing the internet... depressing.
I found an artist who was constantly harassed. Apparently, he had stolen one picture, however it was in the form of a desktop. ((aka, he uploaded a picture of his desktop with something that made front page on it)). By the time I saw his page, it was full of spam, only deviations were two original poems, and a journal begging to be left alone. Please people... get off the bandwagons. There was nothing left to hate over, the stories were his, apparently the bandwagon wasn't happy he wasn't banned. They are still harassing him, for an honest mistake.
Well guess what? The art-theft not being banned gives you no right WHATSOEVER to harass them and tell them to kill themselves.
How would you like it, if some complete stranger came up to you in a public place while wearing a mask gave you a note, and it said "I hate you, you should go kill yourself to make the world a better place. Everyone hates you." then walked off.
I don't care who it is or what they stole. They are human beings, and should be treated as such. Leave it to the admins to yell at them, by simply clicking the "report art" button and filling in the proper information, then it will go away, and you don't have to condemn yourself in the process. If it doesn't go away, then OBVIOUSLY the admins think you are the overreacting dumbshit and you should get over it, but not by lashing out.
This public service announcement was brought to you from the bottom of my heart... to all those who bandwagon against "art thieves".. you need to check into your facts, and what you SHOULD REALLY do to take care of the theft. If you make people cry and grin while doing so, then you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Harassing other users won't help the art theft problem. If anything, it creates spite and hatred, enough to worsen the problem. If you find stolen art, just report it. Don't make a journal about it telling everyone to report it. Your ONE report will do, and having everyone else report it doesn't help, it just makes more files for the admins to go through. This makes the admins tired, and less likely to listen.
If you have jumped on a bandwagon, be honest. I don't want to hear everyone saying "OH I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT" because I know that almost everyone here has done it at least once. I did it last year twice, over art that was stolen from a sonic fan-artist I watch. I only posted "who do you think you are kidding?" with a link to the original piece in the art's comment box, and I did not post in their journal or on their front page at all.
Even so, I feel what I said was wrong. I didn't have to say anything, I should just hit the report button and walk away. You too.
Spread the word.

If you know you're innocent, any comment couldn't be directed towards you. I've been called all kinds of bitches and uppity cunts, but I shrugged it off because I KNEW I didn't deserve it. Sweetheart, there's no need to explain yourself when you aren't in the wrong. If someone has it out for you, they'll do whatever they can to get a reaction. Shrug it off. Don't give them any ammunition.
I agree that art theft NEVER gives ANYONE the right to tell someone to kill themselves. BUT I've seen people steal art, make money off said art, get banned and just make a new account to do it all over again.
I can understand the desire not to be harassed, especially if you make a mistake... but for every mistake, there's someone who's doing it on purpose. When your whole damn gallery is full of stuff you didn't draw- and not desktop screen caps or stuff you credited to someone else, either- then, that is a problem. People abuse the 'I didn't know'. Now...the ones who post 'I didn't make/draw write this, but I'm not sure who did. Just wanted to share good art.' Those can be left alone, but the ones who are just butt heads, I think, need a stern reprimand beyond the whole 'ordeal' of making a new account. Mostly, when I find a REAL art thief, a pathological art thief, I just PM them that they ought to be ashamed of themselves and to take the picture down because it ISN'T right. Then i report them. I've gotten told to f*** off for it, but I feel that it's fair to warn them before they get kicked off DA.
I try to discourage art theft by people who do it because they don't have anything that they feel comfortable posting. I chat with them. 'Your art's fine. You're still budding.' or 'This may not be your genre. Work your way up to it'.
Harassers are a whole different issue. I don't think they have anything better to do. I've been harassed for getting an honorable mention in someone's JOURNAL. Which is utter bullshit. I've been harassed because I happened to have more page views than someone who'd been here 2 years longer than me. Harassers, tend to either be dumb followers or just malicious trolls hoping to get something started. I report all of them because harassing is kinda against policy here. They get banned and don't do it anymore.

That's one of those instances where you tell them to 'fuck off'/'go to hell'/etc and move on with you day. That's happened to me a few times. It only ever hurts when it's someone that matters, like my mom.
Your little buddy will grow out of it, I hope. Forgive me if I don't sound more sympathetic, but I was bullied a lot as a child, so I learned to stick up for myself early. Just encourage her/him to speak up for themselves and most importantly, BELIEVE in themselves. Every drawing is a learning experience because few drawings are ever as good as we want them. Someone telling you that your stuff's bad, stupid or crap, is obviously too dumb themselves to realize what art is. It is expression...and if it isn't to the ARTIST'S liking, it's still not finished...
